G4 put on a spectacular Summer Tour!
Cardiff CIA 31st March 2006 - what a night at Cardiff! Thanks to the kindness of lots of fellow G4 fans who arranged a Meet and Greet for me I have at long last met the G4 boys!
Along with about 15 or so other people we were ushered into a room upstairs and Gareth the road manager came in first and told us to ask for what we wanted, photos, hugs, signings, etc
Suddenly they were there - in the room with us. Jon came in first and I felt so shocked when I saw him to see how incredibly even more handsome he is in real life than in his pictures. In real life he is quite breathtakingly handsome. He saw me in my wheelchair and bounded over to me and said "Hi, thank you so much for coming!" A bit of a heart meltdown moment there!
I somehow managed to find enough wherewithall to utter something along the lines of "could I have a hug" and immediately he hugged me and kissed me on the cheek. Next I met Mike. He was great- he signed my stuff and gave me a lovely hug and thanked me for coming! Then it was on to Ben - he signed stuff and hugged me and was warm and friendly and lovely. And how handsome he is. Then on to Matt. He was so great to talk to. So easy and comfortable. Such a nice guy.
All four were delightful and now I want to meet them all over again! I used to think one meeting would be enough - but it's like dipping your toe into a river - once dipped - you want a whole ocean! It was a fabulous, special and heartwarming time and I have relived it all ever since!
Once back in the foyer we made a bee line for the merchandise stall and went on a "G4 spending spree!" I got a Tour T Shirt and T Towel (to promote the boys where-ever I go!) I also got a G4 Bear, a G4 Badge Pin and one of the strappy things that goes round your neck with G4 written all over it - and the fluorescent light thing to wave in the concert - which I duly did at every opportunity! Loving the G4 strap! We then made our way to our seats. It was very easily accessible and my sister was able to park my wheelchair quite close by... so laden with our G4 goodies, welsh flags, daffodils, G4 boas (losing feathers everywhere!) we took our seats and waited for the show to begin.
I really liked the support group Triniti. I thought they had lovely voices and harmonies and some of their songs were quite lovely.
The interval seemed to go by very quickly and soon we were back in our seats and then .........at last........G4! I wont go through all the songs - I'll just talk about my highlights - there were so many I hardly know where to begin.
Before that though - I must mention the set and the costumes. I loved the set - especially the little video screens and the archway that they were coming through - fabulous.
The white jacket look was very suave and sexy and I also loved the casual jeansy look and the smart suits with same colour ties but my favourite of all was the different coloured suits that they wore for the solos and the new songs. It sort of symbolised (to me anyway) their individuality with the different colours but individuality as part of a group - if that makes any sense. I really really loved it.
Anyway - in no particular order - these are my song/performance highlights of the night:
Beautiful: lived up to its name. Sung so beautifully and Jon’s high and long note on "shine" was spine tingling.
Fever: Hot, hot and hotter! I always knew this song would be fantastic live and it didnt disappoint - loved the bit where they were wiping their brows!
Bee Gees Medley: Brilliant! Great crowd pleaser with people up on their feet dancing and clapping.
The Last Song: Their vocals on this song were absolutely beautiful -listening to them sing it live was sheer bliss. I just wished it could have gone on and on.
Nessun Dorma: breathtaking as always and how the crowd loved it.
You'll never Walk Alone: Wonderful rendition. My sister and I (and quite a few others in the audience) were waving our welsh flags like fury.
La Donna e Mobile: Wonderful fun! I loved everything about this - (such a great idea to divide up the audience into teams and learn to sing a bit of opera) - the rivalry and the booing of the other teams and the singing - I loved it all........I was a bit naughty and sang for both Matt and Jon's team but I think Matt’s Team won the night. And it was great fun trying to sing as low as he does!
It was great to hear them sing La Donna all the way through afterwards - Jon's vocals on this always make my heart soar and hearing it live was out of this world!
The Solos:
The solos were amazing. Each one brought something different and were for me such a highlight of the show.
Matt: Sang "It’s Not Unusual" - sheer entertainment! Fabulous! And the little dance - he is a born performer! .
Mike: Mike sang "Your Song" very beautifully and what a joy to hear him play the keyboard. The crowd gave such a roar when he sat down to play. He was wonderful.
Ben: I think Ben's vocals on "Unbelievable" were fabulous. The song suited his voice so well and he was delightful with the lucky young lady to whom he sang.
Jon: Lovely, lovely Jon. It was hard to concentrate on his song when he was down amongst us in the audience. Jon came passed our row and there I was hugging and kissing him for the second time that evening - whilst he was singing - which made it such a special moment. His voice on "Home" was unbeatable - such power and emotion. When he got back on stage I held up my banner "Come HOME with me Jon" and I dont know whether he could see it but he seemed to look straight at me and he smiled!
The Arms of the Angel: One of the new songs from the third album out this Christmas. Biggest song highlight of the night for me. The harmonies on this song were exquisite!
From the Heart: Another song from the new album and another big highlight. Especially Jon’s vocals on the long held out notes towards the end. Superb.
My Way: Another highlight because once again I got to hold Jon's hand and also hugged and kissed the lovely Mike! I couldnt really concentrate on the singing - too busy enjoying the whole "intimacy" of the boys being down amongst us in the audience.
And thanks to Kerry (who made the biggest of sacrifices) I got the rose that Mike threw! Hugs and so much love Kerry! I will treasure it. It's in pride of place with all my other precious G4 memoribilia!
Bohemian Rhapsody: Always superb and so wonderful to be there with the whole arena up on their feet enjoying G4’s amazing version of such a huge song. I loved the new way of performing it - and Jon throwing himself onto his knees - WOW! I did wonder if he was going to stop or slide right off the stage! Loved it Jon!
Those were my extra special moments - but I loved it all - every single moment! It's going to take some considerable time to come back down to earth!
Meeting G4 was a dream come true. Meeting so many fellow G4 fans was a huge highlight of the night.
I was also very proud of my fellow countrymen and women. Wales did G4 proud. Everytime I looked around people were on their feet and clapping and cheering and joining in and even the older members of the audience who sometimes remained seated were smiling and joining in and obviously enjoying it all so much.
All the songs were beautifully sung – Yellow, You’re the Voice, Circle of Life, and so many more. G4's live voices are just phenominal.
They put on a spectacular show – roll on the new album and the next tour!
Love Molly xx
