G4

Friday Night is Music Night

We sat in the 3rd row in the centre.. just at eye-level with the boys on stage.  Not sure the orchestra, or anyone else was quite used to such a young and enthusiastic audience (yes J, I include you, Fran et al in that statement!) They came on stage looking superb in their suits.. just the kind of boys you'd like to take home to meet your mum.. I wish.

Anyway, they performed Nessun Dorma first of all, such passion and effort, Jon was red in the face when they finished. Never tire of seeing and hearing them perform ND. It was slightly unusual in that the boys were stood either side of the conductor, Jon and Ben to the left, Mike and Matt to the right (usual formation just divided) so it was like watching a game of tennis at times.

They followed ND with My Way, starting off as they often do completely a capella, then the orchestra joined them mid-way through.

They came back out a while later and completely spoilt us with their first performances of Pearl Fishers and La Donna e Mobile since they recorded them for their 2nd album. I was almost on the floor!! Pearl Fishers is my favourite track from the 2nd album and to see them perform it live was just incredible. My heart is pounding now listening to it on the Radio 2 website, just picturing them singing it on stage...

Kit and the Widow were hilarious.. described us as 'G4 Totty'... I think that's going to stick.

It was quite unusual in that the boys spoke to the audience between songs, usually the presenter introduces all the songs. Mike told us between Pearl Fishers and La Donna that they are looking forward to going on tour again in May, and that they should be previewing some tracks from their *3rd album*

If you listen again via the radio 2 website you'll hear our reaction to that news!!

Anyway, after an outstanding performance of La Donna (and after they'd been offstage to catch their breath.. thought Jon might actually explode during La Donna) they came back out and surprised us with You're The Voice.. the set list had said Barcelona but I was more than happy with YTV. Audience participation was excellent, clapping and singing along.. Mike the budding rock star was loving it.  They followed that with their trademark.. Bo Rhap!

Loved it!! They ditched the microphone stands so that they could move around more, Jon jumped off the stage and ran along the front row.. rock on boys!!

They came back out at the end of the show to receive a standing ovation - absolutely well deserved!

Most of us headed around the back of the theatre and I was lucky enough to have a quick chat with Mike and Ben, and a got a quick Hi from Jon and Matt, as Gareth tried to usher them to their car!

All in all an absolute wicked night.. headed to Leicester Square afterwards, couldn't get into the club we'd intended to visit - guest list only.. and guess who was in there?!  They'll just have to take us in with them next time!! hehe

So that's that.. a wicked night, great to see lots of friends, amazing to be at the boys' first performance of PF and La Donna, sooo great to see them again after a couple of months drought!!

Can't wait for April now!

Wahey, sounds like an excellent night all round, Kerry! Thanks for posting a review for us. Sounds as though you were totally spoilt with the song choices, especially being so close. There''s no better place to hear them than live (especially when you''re at the front!). Hope when they spoke to the audience it was a bit more natral and ''flowing'' than usual ;)
That''s excellent news about a 3rd album - I''m looking forward to the tour even more now!
Shame about not getting into the club...better luck next time, eh?!

Great review Kerry. My sister was at the concert too and she is still on Cloud 9. It was the first time she had heard and seen G4 live and she was totally blown away by their voices and their charisma.

I listened in on Radio 2 and I can only say they were magnificent! Fabulous choice of songs - and the audience showed such appreciation and interaction. It was brilliant. Lovely to hear Mike say they may be giving us a taster of the third album on Tour!
