The tenth Classical BRIT Awards have taken place at The Royal Albert Hall in London and a plethora of classical artists were present to honour this year's most outstanding performers.

The 2009 winners are decided from the Academy voting, except NS&I Album of the Year selected by Classic FM listeners and Classic FM Magazine readers; the Soundtrack of the Year Award chosen by a panel from film and television and the winner of the Critics’ Award which was chosen by a panel of critics from the national media.

The 2009 Classical BRIT Award winners are:

Female Artist of the Year
Alison Balsom Haydn & Hummel/Trumpet Concertos

Male Artist of the Year
Gustavo Dudamel Fiesta

Composer of the Year
Howard Goodall Eternal Light – A Requiem

Young Classical Performer or Group
Alina Ibragimova

Soundtrack of the Year, chosen by a panel from film and television
Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard The Dark Knight

Critics’ Award, chosen by a panel of critics from the national media
Sir Charles Mackerras/Scottish Chamber Orchestra Mozart Symphonies nos. 38-41

NS&I Album of the Year, chosen by Classic FM listeners and Classic FM Magazine readers
The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Spirit of the Glen – Journey
