Ok, I wonder what other people think - we had a poweroutage the other night due to a storm. It got me thinking (yes even I do from time to time)about modern amenities such as the Ipod, stereo, CD's and radio. My stereo would not have worked, nor my computer. To run the radio I need batteries, another modern amenity.
So how did the Musicians/artists of yore get their works to be famous?
Through travel of course and word to mouth by travelers.
so here is my question:
Am I lucky that modern technology has radio, CD's and such that I am able to hear Music/Performers even if I never get to see them live?
Or are the artists lucky that they have a medium to bring their works to the masses prior to having to travel - therefore the meaning of 'Going on
Tour' changed from maybe necessity??? to luxury???
Anyone care to give their opinion?

You pose an interesting question here Novice and one which I think applies to all artists...I will post your question over in the General Section too!

I think that we are definitely luckier to be living in today's world of modern technology. Could you imagine hearing about artists such as Nick by word of mouth and then never having the chance to see him / hear him perform (whether live or recorded). Many Classical Composers would have manuscripts of their music published and then the music would be performed by other musicians / artists. This is all very good when it comes to Composers but when the artist is also known for their own vocal abilities, (like Nick)then having someone else perform their work seems a poor substitute.

I do think though that whilst recordings of an artist are wonderful, there is nothing to compare with the experience of seeing / hearing them live.Somehow a live performance is that much more intimate and special. I'm sure any of you who have seen their favourite artists perform can agree.

That doesn't bear thinking about! Hearing about Nick but never actually getting to hear his music other than if you saw him in concert!

I do agree with some of the comments above. There is no substitute for seeing an artist perform live, but at least having their music on a CD/DVD/Ipod means that you can replay them over and over again and can the artist reach a much bigger audience.

Nick's fans are very lucky too in that he often meets up with them after performances and spends time with them. We also have the advantage of his website (another wonderful piece of technology) where we can talk to Nick and fellow fans, share ideas and generally get to know everyone.

When Nick's album is released, for me, it will be so much more than a music album by a brilliant and talented artist. Having met him a few times and gotten to know a bit about him through chats in person and on the website, the album will be that extra bit special as we will be sharing the benefits of the hard work and talent of someone we all think so highly of and look on as a dear friend.
