Taken from HMV Choice mag mar/apr 2006 issue 33.
(magazine is FREE in HMV)

Russell Watson The Ultimate Collection
The irrepressible Salford Tenor is back with 20 of his favourite songs. (words Helen M Jerome)

These days Russell Watson is rarely out of the spotlight, whether performing live in the touring version of Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds or partnering Cutting It's Sian Reeves on TV's celebrity duet show Just The Two Of Us. But just three years ago, Watson thought his career might be over when he faced an operation to remove a polyp from his ight vocal chord. Thankfully he bounced back and is now rewarding his followers with a generous 20-track compilation of classic songs, including two completely new tracks, Can't Help Falling In Love and I Have Nothing.
His distinctive tenor voice first sprang to national attention when he was invited to perform at Old Trafford - the song in question was Nessun Dorma, which aptly, is one of the highlights here. And, as a loyal Manchester United supporter, he includes Barcelonaas a souvenir of his team's Champions Lewague-winning exploits in the city in 1999, duetting here with Happy Mondays vocalist Shaun Ryder. Other special guests are Lulu on The Prayer and ex-steps chum Faye Tozer on their single, Someone Like You.
Some of the most popular numbers from his repetoire, like the eergreen Volare and O Sole Mio, plus Luigi Denza's unbelievably upbeat Funiculi Funicula, show that Watson never forgets his primary role as an entertainer, delivering both "the big voice and the power ballads". Appropriately, he gives his own commanding version of You Raise Me Up, preiously made famous by Westlife and recently a tribute ti the legendary Manchester United idol George Best.
The Voice is back.

I like this review tho. It is a short review but has been well researched, rather than just listening to the album and just saying what they think. Very Happy

Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Unfortunately Faramir cannot get HMV mag as the US doesn't carry it
that I know of. If anyone here would it might be Hastings so I shall have to run down there and see if they do. You bet THE VOICE is back and as great as ever. I have all his cd's and the 2002 NZ concert dvd. Any critics out there aught to just bite their behinds and shutup. Russell is unique in that he had no classical training. He was a born natural and a blessed born natural with that voice he has. No one speaks ill of Russell around Faramir or their libal to be attacked by Sir Peewee my
vicious little chihuahua. Razz Razz Laughing Laughing He would lick them to death so I would just chase them off with exact replica of the Kings Sword from LOTR's. Or Boromir's sword, Arwen's sword, Legolas's fighting knives and most dangerous of all as it came complete with all areas that are supposed to be edged edged. And that is the Elven Daggar given to Aragorn in The Fellowship of the Ring. Boromir's sword is bad too as it has very sharp point on it. But the Kings Sword has no sharp
edges but you could beat someone within an inch of their life as it is extremely heavy seeing as it has a 52" blade and that does not count the hilt which is at least
almost a foot and a half long itself. So if we need to arm up and get any nasty reviewers, let Faramir know and we'll get armed up and go get some Cave Trolls.
