Vittorio brings you a slice of little Italy By Stephen McKenna

Rating : 4

If everyone listened to this record there would be no wars!

28 year old Italian opera singer Vittorio Grigolo released his debut 'crossover' album In the Hands of Love on March 13th. The album almost instantly shot to number one in the pre-release charts on amazon.co.uk

Listening to the album today, it is difficult to ignore the sheer power and beauty of Vittorio's voice.

Vittorio has been bold by recording original material for his debut album. In the world of opera music it is notoriously difficult to be accepted for penning your own songs, but with confident and heartfelt tracks like Tu Sei, Fuerte, Querida and Roma Sogna, Vittorio is sure to make everyone stop and pay attention.

Avoiding the usual Pavarotti style songs, In the Hand of Love features renditions of Stevie Wonder's All in Love is Fair, Daniel Bedingfield's If You're Not The One and a remarkable version of Keane's Bedshaped.

With songs in Italian, Spanish and English, Vittorio ensures that his music will reach a broad audience.

An accident on his motorbike led Vittorio to have to make a decision between his motorcycling career and his singing. Spurred on by his family, Vittorio chose a career as an opera singer and is now reaping the benefits of that wise decision.

In the Hands of Love is not solely made up of orchestral strings like violins and cellos. There are some beautiful sounding nylon strung guitars on All in Love is Fair, Magia De Amor and Fuerte.

Listen to the Bell is a gorgeous track, after listening to this you can see why he was compared to Pavarotti! This is quite possibly the best example of his voice, made all the better with tension building cello and drums.

Vittorio sings title track In the Hands of Love in English. I prefer his Italian and Spanish tracks. Opera doesn't sound as good in English; it takes all of the romanticism out of it!

The best track on the album has to be Bedshaped. From its soaring strings intro, you are left in awe at the familiar tune that he has made so uniquely his own.
