The first winner of the night at the Classical Brits 2008 has just been announced...

Nicola Benedetti wins Young British Performer! Fopish Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen presented the award to her with typical style and aplomb.

Nicola Benedetti - Young British Classical Performer

First past the winning post was the musician who last year despite being nominated for three Brits left empty-handed. Not the case for violinist Nicola Benedetti this time around. Nicola was awarded with the Young British Classical Performer Award by Classic FM's Sunday Spa presenter Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen and afterwards she told Anne-Marie how it felt to be the first winner of the night: "I'm very happy that I've won, and grateful to be nominated. It was nice to be able to stand up there and thank people and have my family there."

I was so pleased to see Nicola get the award for Young British Classical Performer. And she looked fabulous in her long dark blue dress Very Happy

- although she tripped over something on the way to receive the award Sad
