Classic fm's No1 classical hero as voted for by online is.........

1. RUSSELL WATSON

No question – Russell Watson is your number one classical hero. We were inundated with votes for the Salford-born Tenor who has taken opera to so many new audiences. One listener summed up the scale of his achievement against pretty tough odds: “He has survived the critics and personal setbacks to bring people enjoyment through his music”. A deserved number one."

Many congratulations to Russell for a deserved honour, he is indeed a very courageous and inspiring character who has overcome so many setbacks and battles, any single one of which would have floored a lesser person, to follow and achieve his dreams.

His strength, determination and fight is a real shining example to us all.

I am absolutely delighted for Russell, and I know this will mean a great deal to him.

It's very well deserved, and couldn't go to a nicer person. Very Happy
