The Autumn Leaves.... Well It Comes Actually!
Blimey, I'm sorry it's been so long since we've caught up with my motions (no Gillian McKeith here!) I mean, what's been going on during the summer?
After a great time doing Sondheim's Sweeney Todd in August, I started an intensive filming period for the critically acclaimed Insider Series for Channel 4 who asked me to write and present a programme for them. I was not only able to give an insight into my own life story and a passion for a serious social problem, but I even got my mum on camera. Big thanks to everyone who made it such a success!
Although I'm loving my new dip into presenting, a summer wouldn't be the same for a tenor without some big Summer concerts! On the glitzy side, I was up and doon the UK like a fiddlers elbow, but had a great time in some lovely venues including the Edinburgh Festival for BBC Scotland, Plymouth and Port Lympne with the NSO, Westonbirt with the lovely Natasha Marsh, Langholm Festival with the RSNO principal flautist, Katherine Bryan, the Isle of Marin with Hayley Westenra, Newmarket with Katherine Jenkins, Liverpool Cathedral with Lesley Garrett and even found the time to pop onto some early morning TV sofas! What a long list of women eh? I'll get a name for myself!
On a more serious side, I had some great opportunities to work with some very special artists on platforms such as the inaugural London Song Festival, a special discovery concert for Roger Vignoles at Leeds Lieder Festival, a song recital at the Crwth Festival in Swansea, and the young artists of the Southbank Sinfonia at Cadogan Hall.
At the beginning of this month, I was also invited to join the company of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Young Opera Programme, which is extremely exciting as a young singer. I'm also thrilled to announce that I have been offered the presidency of the Dumfries Musical and Operatic Society, a company who promote and make theatre accessible to all in Scotland. A role I have taken on with great enthusiasm.
I've got some really brilliant things coming up for the rest of the year too, which it would be great to see you dawn at. I am singing the premiere of a new Cantata for tenor and Orchestra at Southwark cathedral to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falklands, a charity with Willard White, a Christmas Celebrity Special for the main charity I support Help the Aged, some great opera Scenes at Guildhall and my big annual Christmas Concert, which this year will take place at the Royal Concert hall in Glasgow with the City of Glasgow Chorus.
So folks, promise I wont leave it so long for a catch-up but in the meantime, take care, be very merry and God bless.
Love aye,
Nicky x
