I tought it might be interesting to know how I hit on the ten tenors. So here's my short story (ok, it's not really short Laughing)

It was around the end of 2001. One day I came home from university, and since I didn't really have anything to do, I decided to visit a small music store which has always been good for finding a special or unknown CD. I didn't want anything particular, so I just looked around the store till one CD labled "The Ten Tenors" caught my eye. On its cover you could see ten young men in black suits who looked like anything, but not like tenors.

So my first impression was far away from beeing positive. It was the time when Germany and the world were drowned by a wave of different tenorial groups. "The German Tenors", "The Young Tenors", "The Celtic Tenors"... Despite my passion for classical music I really had enough of those, and couldn't have thought of a single reason what the world would need a group of another ten tenors for.

However, I wanted to listen to this rubbish - just for a bit of amusement. But well, it turned out to be a bit different. Surprisingly, I liked what I heard. The (for me at that time) unusal mixture of music linked with their classical voices (which they still had back in those days) I found fascinating. And so I went home with a new CD and decided I definitely had to see a show of these guys.

Unfortunately their concerts in Berlin had already been over and so we (yes, we... of course I wanted to take Chris) had to wait until the following year. But it was definitively worth waiting. We were hooked.

However, it still took me another year to become completely addicted. I have absolutely no idea in which way the concert I saw in 2003 differed from the one a year before, but afterwards I was completely lost. Laughing Well, maybe it was the fact that we visited their usual signging that year (we hadn't done in 2002) and found out that they were really nice and approachable blokes...

By now I've seen 13 concerts (2002: 1, 2003: 2, 2004: 3, 2005: 7 ... Chris looks at this developement in great fear Laughing Laughing) and the number will increase this year. Over the years I've seen tenors go and others come and witnessed the groups developement. And they developed a lot. Their choice of music shifted from the all classical field to more popish songs, which I'm a tiny bit sorry about. I like their original material, but I wish they'd do it with a more classical touch. Anyway, IMO they have such a personality and charisma on stage, that I still go back every year to see the shows. Really looks like an addiction... think I'll need detoxication Laughing Laughing Laughing

Well, some of them indeed remember when they see you sitting there front row or during the signing at your third show of the year. I guess you attract attention when you are the only one shouting and cheering in miles, or when you are having a little argument with a security guy who wants you to sit down while the guys on stage encourage you to stand up, or when you get beaten with an umbrella by a nice female audience member behind you because she doesn't like you singing and dancing, or ... oh, I could go on forever with things I've experienced at such concerts. Smile Anyway, they meet so many people every night that I doubt anyone will remember me in May, when they're back in Germany. Wink Very Happy
