I went over to Richmond today to give Aled a Good Luck card for the first day of the panto- to find a notice in the foyer, that he had suffered an injury and would not be appearing. On further questioning I was told he had pulled a tendon and was in plaster! It sounds as if it happened yesterday.
What bad luck! and all we can say is we hope it heals soon and and Aled can be back climbing his beanstalk before too long |

| Poor Aled! This is such bad timing - I just hope it isn't as serious as it sounds so that he can be back on the stage soon. Will listen to GMS on Sunday (assuming he is able to make it in) and see if he mentions how it happened. |

I really hope he can manage GMS - if they can get him up into the studio, he won't have to dance or climb a beanstalk! But if not, they will have to say something about it when GMS starts anyway.
It really is the most appalling time for this to happen - and knowing Aled as we do, I'm sure we can say that he will be the most frustrated of all.
I spoke to both the girl on the booking desk and the one selling programmes, but both knew only the minimum - what I have put above.

Oh dear, I am feeling really awful now, I made the joke about Aled singing half a song then falling off the beanstalk (see The best of thread). Hope we didnt put the mockers on him!

Sad news
Aled said on Good Morning Sunday that it is the Achilles tendon which has been torn and he wil be in plaster for some time - he mentioned 8-10 weeks. And - it happened at the last dress rehearsal!
Aled always sounds so cheerful and still managed quite a few jokes this morning, but even he sounded somewhat down about it, saying how much he had been looking forward to the panto. He is going to the theatre this morning to discuss there what will happen.
What more is there to say? Except - HEAL UP QUICKLY, Aled. Aled is never crotchety, and a crutchety Aled is not acceptable either! |

| Yes this was very sad news. I hope the discussions at the theatre go well today no matter what the outcome is. If he can't do panto he'll need to keep his mind occupied to keep him from thinking about what he's missing too much. Hopefully the family will be able to help with that though! |

So has anyone heard how Aled got on at the theatre? Poor guy!! I hope he's not in too much discomfort!! I hope it heals as quickly as possible! If he does want to do panto and the theatre want him there there are limitless possibilities to accomodate Aled and his injury!! After all this is panto and nothing is impossible with panto! Often the more bizarre the funnier!! A Jack who fell down the beanstalk, broke his ankle (Aled - don't even think about doing that!) and now has an assistant to do his running for him! And dancing come to that!?
There are so many possibilities where Aled could be Jack and still look after his injury! But of course he must do what is right/best for him!! |

Hi again!
Well I have just spoken to the box office of Richmond theatre and they are not saying anything for certain but told me that it's highly unlikely that Aled will be back to do panto. They will refund tickets for anyone who booked specifically to see Aled. They're not doing this today but will soon and you need to ring them with your booking details.
As I said they couldn't confirm anything for sure yet but didn't sound too hopeful that he would be back! I may try and ring them in a few days to see if anything has been confirmed either way!
Sorry it's not more positive!
If he's not doing panto Let's hope Aled takes the time off to actually rest and catch up on family time! Aled - you look after yourself you hear!?? Heal fast and enjoy the festive season!!! Love ya!!! |

Oh dear!
Latest news from The Stage:
"Injury forces Aled Jones to postpone panto appearance
Welsh singer and former child star Aled Jones has been forced to postpone his appearance in pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, after injuring his Achilles tendon.
Jones will need treatment and to rest his leg for several weeks. Meanwhile Andrew Derbyshire will now take over the role of Jack in the production at the Richmond Theatre.
Derbyshire has previously played Prince Charming in Cinderella, Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the leading role of Galileo in the West End production of We Will Rock You. He commented: “I am thrilled to be playing Jack as the script for the pantomime is superb and the songs a delight for children and adults alike. Obviously, we are all really sorry that Aled is unable to start the run but we all hope that he will be able to participate in some of the later performances.
What an awful thing to happen! - and we know that Aled will NOT keep still and rest his leg... Apart from anything else, he is on The Wright Stuff tomorrow morning at 9.00..!

Well, I saw Aled at The Wright Stuff today and spoke with him afterwards. He was on crutches, clearly in discomfort.
It also became clear that Aled will not be able to appear in the panto at all. He is in plaster to the knee for 2 weeks, then will have it checked and an operation may be necessary. He is looking at 8-10 weeks of relative inactivity. It appears it was quite a bad tear, his leading lady stepped on his ankle with her high heels during the last tango, 10 minutes from the end of the last dress rehearsal - what bad luck! The implications for him are clearly quite severe. However, Emilia is enjoying having her daddy home more!
However... clearly radio work wil not be affected - and he has been asked to sit in for Sarah Kennedy for 2 weeks in January again!
All one can say is - all commiserations, and all thoughts are with you, Aled. Let's hope it heals up, if not quickly, then completely, and leaves you able to dance again.

Confirmation from Aled himself today that he will not be appearing at all in the panto. He is in considerable pain, and sees a consultant next Thursday to see if the injury is healing. If not - an operation calls.
He is clearly very bored sitting around at home - not a usual Aled occupation! And I did warn him to be extra careful of his injury when climbing down that chimney on Christmas Eve..... (well, we have to laugh somehow )
All the best for the best Christmas possible in the circumstances, Aled. |
