|
|
Aled's best of album - "You Raise Me Up" - is in the shops from tomorrow.
In addition to the selection from the previous Aled adult albums (see discography), there is a new and special, duet, version of "Walking in the Air"!
A review of the album is in the Review section.
In addition, the Amazon.co.uk review states:
"Far from disappearing after hitting the pop charts with his famous schoolboy soprano rendition of "Walking in the Air" in 1985, Welsh singer Aled Jones has gone on to become one of the most consistent vocalists in Britain. His voice may have dipped to a baritone, but Jones has still shifted over six million records, entertained the Pope and the Queen, and has even become something of a minor television celebrity. One hit wonder, he isn't. You Raise Me Up collects together highlights from his 16 albums to date. Featuring many of his best-loved hits "I Believe", "Silent Night", "Abide With Me", "Marble Halls" and, of course, the title track Jones has also pulled off the wonderful masterstroke of re-recording "Walking in the Air", superimposing his current voice onto the original to create a most enchanting self-duet. Fans won't need much persuading to add this to their collection; and those who had Jones down as a novelty act might want to listen to this and think again.--Danny McKenna "
Enjoy! |

Well I have the new album!!
The only track I hadn't heard was WITA.....and in my opinion.....it's FAB!!!! The duet grows through the song and Aled really shows off the range of his adult voice going from very low to some wonderful high tenor and falsetto.
It's a track that needs to be put on fairly loud to get the full effect I think but definitely worth listening to and I give it a big thumbs up!
Well done Aled!

WITA duet certainly seems to be going down a treat! I must admit to liking it better than the original.
And I am always amazed at how Aled takes one of his "old " songs from 20+ years ago and gives it such a fresh feel with his duet version. He has said himself that his timing and phrasing etc are exactly the same, which is why it works so well. And the two voices compliment each other brilliantly. Unique is almost not the word! |

| I got the new album on Mon as a belated birthday present, but as much as I have tried asa yet I have not heard it all the way through yet; WITA is growing on me as it was not quite as I had expected after hearing Aled sing it with the Chior Boys last year & a great review Xbon. See you tomorrow for FNIMN love Dawn |

I agree, Dawn, the Aled WITA duet is more a "proper" duet - in the one with the Choirboys last year, Aled just came on stage singing half way through. On this version it is sung together more throughout (I don't mean necessarily in unison, most of it isn't, I mean the treble and tenor voices are heard throughout)
Yes, FNIMN tomorrow night....lets hope Aled has recovered from his chest infection and is there! |

I'm so pleased for Aled. He's finally been getting some publicity for YRMU and the album sounds great! I love the WITA duet. It's gorgeous. x |

Good to hear from you again Lyndsey!
I know of one person who is not too sure about the WITA duet, but most seem to really like it. I do find the treble / baritone (tenor) duets fascinating - I wonder if any other singer has done something similar? - I would love to know! |

FNIMN was great, thank you Lyndsey. Aled seems to have got over his chest infection, was in fine form as ever, and talking afterwards about the hecticness (if there is such a word!) of life at the moment, as he is in the middle of rehearsals for the panto, is continuing with the drumming, and flies to Dusseldorf after GMS tomorrow to play drums for Chris de Burgh at his concert!
One bit of good news is that he sings 4 (and a half -apparently Emilia thinks we should not forget the half!) songs in Jack and the beanstalk and also dances again!
Back to "You Raise Me Up" - in the classic charts this morning, Mark Goodier said YRMU was the CD of the week and they were giving 10 away - but I can find nothing about it on the classicfm site. I'll check again tomorrow.

Hi!
Thanks for the fab review Xbons! I love the CD! "I Believe" is one of my favourite favourites so I was very glad to see it on the cd!! I also love the WITA duet! I prefer it to the original and agree that Aled's adult voice compliments his treble voice beautifully!! Thank you Aled!! A fantastic cd as ever!! Well deserved that You Raise Me Up being cd of the week!!!
Glad you enjoyed FNIMN Xbons! I look forward to the 4 and a half songs and the dancing in Jack and The Beanstalk!! Can't wait!!!
