Which do you prefer and why?

Was she a better artist as a soprano?

Has the pop album ruined her image in the classical world?

Personally, whilst I loved her classical albums I would have to opt for her pop album. Mainly because she is enjoying herself a lot more and the songs are a lot more personal. I'm pretty sure Charlotte wasn't enjoying her classical music later in her teenage years. It's very obvious she enjoyed doing this album and it suits her a lot more.

Classi Charlotte: Charlotte did not have the best soprano voice. I found she struggled with a lot of her arias and she performed some so bad it was almost like a bad joke. Having said that, I love her classical albums and still play them.
Hits: The Laughing Song, Just Wave Hello, Papa Can You Hear Me, The Prayer, All Love Can Be
Misses: The Flower Duet, Pie Jesu, and pretty much all of her second album

Poppy Charlotte: This is more like it. She loves it, she's feeling it, she's rocking it. Her voice isn't so strained due to the less demanding vocal techniques and she is the best singer in the field. She mixes her previous experiences well (Casualty of Love, Easy Way Out, Moodswings) and she has attitude and real life experiences. This is something that classical music always lacks.
Hits: Call My Name, Crazy Chick, Moodswings, Let's Be Alone, Easy Way Out, Confessional Song
Misses: Easy to Forget, Casualty of Love, Even God Can't Change the Past

I voted for her Pop album. (was listening to it today at work), i prefer her pop voice more, But that's probably cos I'm not really into Female opera singers, soprano is just too high pitch for me, plus i think Charlotte's opera voice was a bit too husky. in my opinion Very Happy

I agree, her voice was a bit 'husky'. I never followed this 'Voice of an Angel' thing. I didn't think her classical voice was angelic at all. Hayley Westenra is angelic... Charlotte sounded like she always had a blocked nose.

I`ve voted Classical. Her pop career seems on the wane now - her singles are charting lower and lower in the charts. I heard her sing live on This Morning just before Xmas and to be honest, she sounded awful, very out of tune and husky (I`m guessing her party lifestyle and constant smoking have all but ruined her voice now), which is a great shame because I guess she could never go back now to singing classical could she ? (she had an outstanding classical voice) Her problem is there are so many female singers in the pop genre at the moment that she is struggling. She seems more famous at the moment as tabloid fodder than for her singing Rolling Eyes Wink

I don't think her pop career is on the wane. As long as you get into the top ten you are still going very well. I know 'Even God Can't Change The Past' got to number 18, but then it was an incredibly weak song, I don't think it's because people atopped liking her.

I don't what possessed her to release that song, especially around Christmas time. I think she should release 'Let's Be Alone'.

I think Charlotte is quite unique in the pop field whilst she couldn't compete with the other sopranos in the classical, but I guess we will agree to disagree there. I know her success in her pop career is a huge thanks to the tabloids. Rolling Eyes

I've not voted at all, because I cannot decide. I agree that her classical voice sounds very nasal, but I like the kind of songs she was singing that time. I really loved her and Josh Groban's rendition of "The prayer". Anyway, I think her voice is doing much better with the pop stuff. The only problem is, that those pop songs she does are not really my cup of tea. Smile

What I really don't like is that she seems to wish to hide her musical past completely. The discography on her OS only shows the new pop album and singles. Rolling Eyes

I agree Nadine. I do remember a quote from Charlotte a few years back promising her classical fans that she wasn't going to abandon them completely, but it looks like she has.

She is aiming for the mainstream audience, so I am not surprised her classical albums are not included on her discography. Her new audience may be put off by it if they saw it. Having said that, I don't think it's right. I think she should be proud of what she achieved, and if it wasn't for her old image, she would have never made it into the tabloids and therefore her pop career would have never taken off.

Neither to be honest. Smile

But she's doing the right thing by going pop. She was never going to make it as a serious classical artist and the pop route does suit her lifestyle better anyway. I don't think she's the best pop singer out there either technically wise but she doesn't need to be. She's got a very good image now, what with the rugby player boyfriend and I guess she identifies with her target market pretty well.

I don't see her lasting all that long though as a singer tbh. I think you'll see her as a TV personality type before long. I just don't see her as having any staying power.

Hi Doppleganger I do understand what you mean. She really stood out as a child star. The same as many that have gone before. She has a good voice and I really hope that she establishes herself long term Very Happy

I hope she sticks around too. I have no idea why, but I love her. It's not like I think her voice is amazing (in fact I don't even like her classical voice, it's nowhere near good enough)

I'm not sure what the fuss was about Charlotte as a child singer, I have listened to her songs from her first album and she was all over the place. Pie Jesu comes out of key a numerous amount of times. Madness that people hailed her as some kind of prodigious singer. It baffles me.

I think it was because she was so tiny( about 10) when She first emerged Nicola and had an incredibly mature voice for her age Very Happy

I feel exactly the same, i really like her, she's got a great attitude and I really admire the fact that she doesn't pander to any of the singer/celeb stereotypes. I do like her pop voice better than her classical voice. I wonder whether she will be singing any classical pieces on her tour?
