31ST DECEMBER 2006 - the Big Party also recorded at the RAH 10th September 2006 featuring G4 and Katherine Jenkins
There is also a review programme on 22nd OCTOBER 2006
G4 will be performing You'll never Walk alone, and an accappella version of Amazing Grace.

Hi Molly,
G4 are not actually on the Oct 29th programme, that is Hayley as soloist, (and Aled sings one verse of one hymn), they are on the Big Party programme on New Year's Eve (filmed in boiling temperatures with everyone fanning themselves like mad and being asked not to! while Aled talks about new year resolutions etc!)
He also interviews them on stage - and Matt had to be interviewd twice as he came out too sweaty in the first interview! _ so had to go off stage to be powdered again and then Aled had to interview him again.
Such are the little insights from one who was there!!!
I think the review programme (Oct 22nd) is mostly interviews by Pam Rhodes of people who attended.

having heard from a couple of people who were there it was a great evening!
I'm really looking forward to the a cappella Amazing Grace - it's their forte and should be wonderful
Poor old Matt - those lights can be a killer can't they?! bless... I'd volunteer to mop his fevered brow any day!

Thanks Xbons.
Piecing together all the information from everyone who was there - I'm looking forward to these two programmes very much.
I'm so looking forward to hearing G4's acappella Amazing Grace its going to make my New Years Eve!
Poor Matt - bless his heart - I'd be happy to mop his fevered brow too - more than happy!
I love Aled - looking forward to hearing him sing and he is always a wonderful presenter.
Love Molly xx
PS Would you by any chance know the second song that Hayley sang - the first was All things bright and beautiful but a fan of hers (a friend of mine) would love to know what the second song was. Thanks in hope. |

Hi Molly,
Firstly, as the Aled rep I am delighted that you are so postitive about him! I love his singing, it touches me, if you know what I mean. But he is also such a nice man! And very funny. Yes I think he is an excellent presenter also - and could see last night how much more there was to it than I had realised before, watching him having to listen to all sorts of things going on through his ear-piece and judge timings and responses, re-do bits, keep the audience cheerful and occupied in the gaps and at one point he said "I wish you could hear what I'm hearing in my ear-piece - it's fascinating - better than East Enders!"
Re the brow mopping - I was at the recording of the Sound of Musicals which Aled presented and sang in last February or so - you may have seen it. During that production he had to be constantly mopped with powder, and said at one point "Anyone who wants this tissue, she (the girl mopping him) will be putting it up on e-bay later"!
To answer your questiosn re Hayley - I also am not sure. I don't think Aled gave the title and it was not in our programme as Hayley sang it alone. I tried to hear the words and noted down "Let your arms enfold us" but can't go beyond that, sorry.
You said on my original posting re The Big Sing on the Aled forum that you had hear the announcement on Good Morning Sunday also. Do you listen each week?
I'm about to update guests etc on the "Aled's September appearances" thread - nothing to do with music, but George Alagiah on Sept 24th which sounds interesting.

Hi Molly (again!)
I've just googled "Let your arms enfold us" and have checked the lyrics on site here - it is clearly "Prayer" on the CD Odyssey that Hayley sang for her second song

Thanks Xbons - I'm very grateful for the Hayley information I shall relay it to my friend.
I do listen in to Aled's Sunday Morning Programme as much as I can and I also try to catch him on Songs of Praise especially when I know he is going to be singing. We did see him on the Musicals programme and he was fabulous.
My daughter and I have always loved his voice but became real fans of his when hearing him sing Oh Holy Night a few Christmases ago - it was so beautiful and we have a few of his albums and are looking forward to the new one The Best of Aled (?) coming out soon.
We fell in love with his personality when he was on Strictly Come Dancing - he showed his fun and very witty side (and his skill at dancing!)and together with his beautiful voice and great presenting skills - he is one of our big favourites.
And of course he shares our nationality so we are very very proud of him!
It's my hope that one day G4 might get to sing with him - for me that would be very special.

Perhaps we ought to move to the Aled Forum to discuss him! But it is really nice to read positive comments from those who are mainly fans of others - liking one person / group does not preclude liking others, does it?
I'm not sure how a male soloist singing with a male group would go down?! - has any other male soloist done that? it is usually a female solist with a male group and vice versa, isn't it? Aled sang with Bryn on the last CD they both issued, and, of course has sung many times with Katherine and Hayley (I was disappointed he did not do a duet with one of them at the Big Sing) and had Triniti on tour - but did not sing with them. But a male solist with a male group...? I'm not sure G4 would like that either!
The Best of Aled album is to be called "You Raise me Up" and will include an adult / child duet version of Walking in the Air!! _ Not sure what I think about that!
I'll pm you separately so we don't take up any more of the G4 board!

Well they did have Robin Gibb and Cliff Richard singing with them on the latest album - but to be honest those tracks are amongst my least favourite... unlike their Barcelona collaboration with Lesley Garrett which is incredible! I think G4 have all the male vocal prowess they need all by themselves... so I'm sure that Aled would suit them as another male vocalist, although I do like him and they have worked together before at the Berkeley Castle concert last year - a night to remember!! I'd like to see them at the same venue again
I saw him at Glasgow with Triniti last December - he was smashing .. although he didn't read out my card! He was also just across the water from me in a little concert in Helensburgh one night but it was sold out by the time I heard!
Anyway , as you say we are veering a little off topic ... I'm just still keeping everything crossed that the a cappella Amazing Grace makes it onto the new album - here's hoping!

Hey, where are all these Aled fans appearing from ?!!!
So, jaydh, you were at Berkeley?! I wasn't but I know a number of people who were and who thoroughly enjoyed it. But yes, he and G4 were on the same artists list but as far as I know they didn't actually sing together did they?
Glad you enjoyed Glasgow - wasn't the beginning fantastic? ("Lead Kindly Light") Sorry he didn't read out your card!! _ I had cards read out and others ignored - ah well! I knew about Helensburgh also - keep your eye on the concert lists now classicalx exists and you may know in good time - although he is such a busy man, the concerts are becoming fewer and fewer. The short tour won't go up to Scotland this year.
I agree G4 have all they need, as I indicated I am not sure another male vocalist would really work with them. They sure got plenty of hoots and hollers on Sunday (and I got 4 autographs afterwards!!)

I absolutely adore G4 and Cliff singing Miss You Nights - both artists are huge favourites of mine - and I think they sing together beautifully.
Maybe it works better when you have a pop and classical voices singing together or male and female - but I still think that Aled and G4 together would be something very special - Aled and Jon could take verses each of something with Ben, Matt and Mike doing the wonderful harmonies behind.
Its on my "wish list".........

Hi Molly,
No exaggeration on the hoots and hollers!
I actually got 6 autographs - Hayley's and Katherine's also - my little programme was getting very full up! - not that I am really an autograph collector actually, but it seemed like an opportunity not to be missed. Katherine and Hayley sit happily in the front inside cover, awaiting Aled, who didn't come out, he got held back discussing with the production team and we had to leave before he appeared.
But my friend has taken my programme and will get his to join the others on Friday 22nd when he presents Friday Night is Music Night and she is going, I can't unfortunately. (even more ) And G4 adorn the inside back cover!

The Official G4 site has this on it:
"Set your video recorders, because G4 are going to be on Songs of Praise this weekend.
The boys will be appearing on the BBC1 show on Sunday and will be sitting down for a chat."
If this is sunday 15th that will be brilliant - but the site is notorious for being a wee bit vague about things - and we can't find confirmation on BBC listings... so it may be the next week when there is something from the Big Sing on the 22nd.... we will be setting those video recorders anyway just in case!

The Radio Times site for SOP for this coming Sunday, 15th, says:
"Aled Jones is in Manchester to ask Premiership goalkeeper Tim Howard how he copes with football stardom and city busker Krystina Myles reveals why she'll be touring with Chris de Burgh. Jon Christos performs with the Pop Connection Childrens' Choir and Manchester Cathedral hosts the hymn-singing."
so I think the G4 appearance mentioned must be the weekend after, the 22nd - see news item "Songs of Praise October 22nd - classicalx stars"
