Things to know about Alfie Boe ..

Alfie was born in Blackpool and moved to nearby Fleetwood the day he was born.

He has 5 sisters and 3 brothers. His mum is of Irish descent and his father of Norwegian descent.

He spent some of his time playing drums around local working mens clubs, including the Central Working Mens Club, Blackpool. Fleetwood Gas Workers Club & The British Legion !! Alfie then went on to perform at Brixton Academy and The Barfly, signing with The Inspiral Carpets.

Alfies family were always short of money and it was a struggle for his parents to bring up 9 kids. Alfie and his 3 brothers always shared the one bedroom !! His Dad was a working class man - factory worker at ICI. His now mother has 48 grandchildren......that was at the last count!

As a kid, Alfie used to cycle behind the fish lorries to collect any fish that fell off the back to take home for Friday supper!

He loves Westerns and is a big John Wayne fan. These days Alfie likes to hike & back-pack through the same country John Wayne did in his movies ie. the mountains of Utah, The Red Rocks and the Mountains of Idaho He now has a family cabin in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Alfie is a very proficient horse rider, plays pool regularly and adores skiing.

He used to go hiking and camping in Lake District. Did outward bound course and once got stranded for 36 hours.

Hes an avid supporter of Liverpool Football Club

He began is working life at legendary Blackpool sports car company, TVR, as an apprentice body mechanic, initially as a "Matt Blacker" and then as a finisher at the end of the production line.

He later worked as security guard at Blackpool Opera House for Pet Shop Boys, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Everly Brothers also at the Shepherds Bush Empire as security for acts including Marillion, Iggy Pop, andJulian Cope. Alfie also did a stint as a hotel porter and interestingly some stand-up comedy in New York!

Alfie was once the Karaoke Champion of West London.

Fave music: Pink Floyd (hes a massive fan), Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Beatles, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Who, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, JJ Cale, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Johnny Cash, Queen, Antony & The Johnson's, Coco Rosie etc.....

Alfie was kicked out of The Amateur Operatic Society in Fleetwood, for fooling about (aged 14). He also bunked off an important Royal Opera House rehearsal to go to see Bob Dylan in concert!

Big moment - shaking Eric Clapton's hand - the same hand that played Layla!

Alfie once stepped for Pavarotti during the sound check for one of Pavs Hyde Park concerts.

Loves to cook - roast dinners are one of his specialities. He also likes a good Indian takeaway meal!

Alfie won a Tony Award for his performance in Baz Lurhman's "La Boheme" on Broadway.

Big moment on Broadway - meeting Sting after my show - he sang whilst crossing the stage with me!.

Alfies known to sing acappela in unusual places including certain New York bars. Witnesses include Cyndi Lauper and Sandra Bullock.

Alfie has been invited to perform at the Classic FM Live concert at The Royal Albert Hall on 21st September, 2006. This is rather ironic as it was on a park bench opposite this venue that Alfie slept for two nights when he first arrived in London to start his music training!
