I'm no good at this really, but I thought I'd add a bit about Kenwood for those that missed the (much better than mine) reviews on RWUK
I can't go into the before bit, cos I was late!!! I can tell you that the violinist was very good indeed, and the weather was lovely. It is worth hearing about how the atmosphere changed for the second half, as soon as William Heywood came on to conduct.
Russell seemed in great form, and really appeared to be enjoying himself. He sang Granada first - absolutely spot on, and I loved the little kick of the leg during the instrumental part. Then he sang Caruso, which was supurb, so much passion in that voice. He sang Funiculi, funicula and I could not see anyone who didn't clap and join in. Finally Volare, with the usual "audience participation!"
He was his cheeky self, making reference to the lake, and making me think of Sarah and her swimming cossie (where are you Sarah, did you enjoy it?? ). I could have lived without his comment about swallowing a moth though, cos I'm scared stiff of them It's just a shame it was over so quickly, but it was well worth the journey. Roll on December...... |
