Looking forward to your review rainy. I am interested in hearing the songs that I have not heard before. Alfie has a very infectious smile and seems to have a great personality. |

Received my album this morning.
Listening to it now.
He's good.
Also inside the booklet he has a bit of his 'story' and also explaine about the songs on the album and why he chose them, which is nice |

Here`s my review of Alfie`s album.....
Classic FM/Sony BMG have chosen an album of classic tenor favourites and I am hugely impressed with his voice on this debut album - he moves effortlessly between his high and low range - (my one complaint of Russell Watson`s high range was that it can sound grating and shrill, but Alfie`s high range is like smooth velvet)! The orchestration and production throughout is superb (Brno Philharmonic) and never overpower his voice. Hard to choose my favourite tracks, but Una Furtiva Lagrima by Donzietti and the wonderful E Lucevan Le Stelle by Puccini show off his full range to maximum effect. In fact I will quote a paragraph from the album sleeve which sums up the affect of hearing this aria perfectly....
Classic FM`s faith was already being rewarded at the very first recording session. When he started singing Puccini`s E lucevan le stelle", the orchestra heard their first sample of this golden voice. En masse, an entire deck of violinists, still bowing furiously, turned their heads, their eyes widening in appreciation. Various recording engineers, too, turned to each other with a glance - a glance that spoke volumes - this voice is the Real McCoy. His unassuming gait and gentle, modest manner belie a truly magical voice, a voice which causes the hairs on the back of the neck to rise, and stay risen.
I hope he stays true to his operatic roots and doesn`t go down the dreaded classic/crossover road, because I think this young man is going to be a huge star of the future worldwide. If his voice sounds this good now, in another 10 years or so when it fully matures, he is going to be phenomenal !! |

Well I've listened to the album. It's good.
I listened without bias,as I'm very open minded when it comes to music and I enjoyed the songs I'd not known before (never heard before by anyone else), but my one criticism is that to me some of the songs lacked a passion. for instance Core n'grato. When Russell Watson sings I can almost here him crying as he sings with so much emotion, it tells the story even better. But when Alfie sang it just sounded like he was singing the words and that was it. Hmmm maybe thats cos he was classically trained I dont know. But i was sad that there was no passion in the voice on some of the songs.
He's a great singer, dont get me wrong, and I think he has an amazing voice, and I did enjoy the album, esp jerusalem (And I agree with Alfie that it should be our National Anthem - as that brings much more oooomph to the public than God save the queen. blah de blah lol).
I like Alfie and the album is good, I'd probably have it on as background music, whilst I'm doing my chores and such like. And I probably would keep buying his CD's as I am interested in his career. |
