How did you first hear about Nick? I guess for many of us, the answer will be that we heard of him when he performed with Amici Forever. I thought it might be fun though for us to share our first memories of when we heard / saw him and what our first impressions were.
For me, I heard a clip of a song on TV advertising Amici's first album The Opera Band. I thought the song was beautiful and went to look for the album at HMV. Nick's voice was instantly recognisable! I also saw the video for Unchained Melody on Classicfm TV and so I was able to match up the voices and faces and Nick didn't disappoint in either category.
I went to see Amici at an outdoor concert last year but by that time Nick had left the group - I was disappointed not to see him perform. I eventually found his website, joined up and since then have had the opportunity to meet him and see him perform in an Opera. He is a genuinely nice guy, with a great talent, fantastic sense of humour and really looks after his fans. I have yet to hear him perform in a concert but that will happen soon at Belvoir!
So what about you? Share your first memories of hearing / seeing Nick.

I heard of Nick through my mum who had watched Amici on Classicfm TV. I hadn't actually heard Nick sing until my mum and I went to an Amici concert in Worthing. I was blown away at the time by his voice.... still am really. They did a signing after the show and I (like a muppet) said to Nick that he had the best voice of the group, whilst the other were sitting there . Since that I joined the Amici board and then Nick's board when he became a solo artist . Now I just try to go to as many Nick concerts as possible to hear him sing. I am constantly amazed at what a nice person he is and how enthusiastic he is. |

Fun subject - of course I too heard of Nick first through Amici - it took me a bit longer to figure out who is who as all I had was the CD - Opera Band - I saw them advertised on TV here in the states was very intriegued as I was looking for something in that direction. It suprised me though that I was drawn towards that smooth deep voice. Not my normal choice. Nick leaving AF was hard - but hearing Nick all by himself for the first time was a treat!
I have not seen Nick perform live but his passion is so vivid when he talks (on his forum) about his work. He can draw you in and make you feel as if you are right there...he certainly is passionate about what he does, be it performing, arranging, composing, directing or just spending time with some of his fans... |

I first saw Nick, together with Amici, on the Des and Mel show in August 2003and was instantly captivated. I did not know then how talented Nick is but I do now.
First time live was in Islington, North London in November 2003, again with Amici. This was an amazingly beautiful concert, made more intimate because of the venue, an old chapel. I remember one of the band saying it was l'like singing in someone's front room', also they thanked everyone for 'being there in the begining'. I have seen Nick many times since but this concert has always been my favourite.
Keep the music playing Nick!

These are lovely tributes to Nick! It's fascinating to hear how you first became aware of him and the special memories you have too. I hope we get a few more postings on this subject. It's an interesting topic and may encourage those not already familiar with Nick to investigate him further.

I first saw NIck with Amici on the clip for Senze Catene. When I fisrt herad it I was like hey this is nice but then Nick came on and I was like WOW what a voice, I wanted to hear more, so I went out and brought Opera Band.
It was Nick's deep voice that fisrt attracted me to Amici and from then on the admiration just grew.
Now he's doing and album of just his voice

I've been a supporter and now a VIP for a very long time. Since Amici - he was the rock of the sound and the focus leastways that was my opinion. His vocals, his arrangements, his stage presence, his very dry sense of humour - was what intrigued me about him. On finding out he composed and conducted and had achieved so much in his operatic career I found I admired and respected his talents and as they say "the rest is history".

I first heard Nick when I was given "The Opera Band" CD for Mother's day a couple of years ago. Since it is Mothers day on Sunday here in NZ, I guess that makes it my 2nd anniversary. When I first heard the Opera Band, I though it was OK but the more I listened, the more I fell in love with Nicks voice. there are many singers with great voices and lots of people singing great songs, but there is something in the way Nick sings that weaves real magic. I am sooooo looking forward to his first solo album and live in hope of one day seeing him perform live.

I just happen to pick up the "The Opera Band" one day and took a look at the songs on the CD. Put it in my shopping cart and once I played it I was hooked. Nicks voice stood out the most...his voice gave me thrills & chills down my spine. The Defined CD was even more brilliant...well the man himself did do all the vocal arrangements. I always turn up the volume when Nick sings (love that Bass-Baritone voice). The first time I say Amici perform was on the PBS station and I also purchased tickets to see them in concert. Well never got around to seeing them....the concert was cancelled and 2 weeks later I found out Nick left the band. But now he is working on his solo CD...how exciting is that. I simply can't wait it will be amazing!! |
