As far as I know from greek magazines Mario will perform this year in Greece, Cyprus and USA. But sooner or later he'll visit Australia too,you can count on this!
He really respects his audience. Two years ago he performed in my town in an open theatre like greek ancient ones. Suddenly it started to rain but he kept on singing and joking after each song. Nobody left the theatre and we all had the feeling that he would keep on singing even if the rain wouldn't have stopped within 20 minutes. It was really very sweet! Sometimes he also dances on stage when the song is rythmic like 'Amado mio' or so.
As I can see you've heard his two latest CDs from Sony Classical.Hes previous one
'Little moments', duet with Deborah Myers, is also very nice and contents songs in english, spanish, italian and one half english half greek. Maybe you should hear it too. That's all for now, next time I'll write you about his life. Questions are wellcome.
Less is more and simple is grate!
Mario's beloved teacher Alfredo Kraus taught him this. |
Hi Mady
Sorry I didn't get back to you, but I've not been well and Charl has been helping me out.
Thank you so much for telling us about the concert Mario did in your home town. I would have stayed there in the rain too. I'm sure the audience was mesmorized with his performance and just couldn't leave. I just love everything I hear about Mario. I was so happy when he signed a t-shirt for me and a concert program at the Tampa concert last month (compliments of Lois and Charlotte). Gina's daughter, Michelle, took a photo of Mario signing, and he's got such a lovely gentle smile on his face.
I've just posted about Mario's visit with the Mario Lanza family this weekend and there's a link to the ML forum. Feel free to leave a message for Mario on it - Bob has invited fans to leave messages for Mario and if possible, Mario will send a message to all his fans.
Keep posting Mady, we'd love to hear more about our Mario in Greece. The US fans have promised the Greek fans that they will look after him while he's in the US.

Hi Bud
Welcome to the Mario forum. I'm sure you introduced me to Mario's music a few years ago when you posted on a Russell MB about "Sometimes I Dream". I found his album and have been a fan since then. If it wasn't you, then it's another Russell fan I've yet to thank.

Hi Jeanne
Mario has said he would like to perform in Australia and I truly believe we will see him in concert within the next few years. When he does come, it will be very very sweet !! |
I hope so Trish. Will you fly over to Sydney again if Perth is not on his Tour |
Hi Jeanne
I will DEFINITELY fly to Sydney again if Mario doesn't perform in Perth. We can go together and maybe Marge and Nettie will come too. We will get the opportunity to meet Mario afterwards and get the traditional Greek welcome !! I'll have to get a pet sitter in to look after Ben and Tiger.

Hi Trish!
I hope you're doing fine again.
Did you know that Mario performed some years ago in "Scala di Milano" playing the part of Tony in "West side story"? One of his first performances was in U.K in the musical "Les miserables" as young Mario. What a coincidence! As for his first one in Greece, it was in "Grease" as Danny Zuko. You can't imagine the way he was dancing! 3-4 years ago he participated also in an ancient greek comedy as "Dionysos" the god of wine. It was in the ancient theatre of Epidavros, where only ancient comedies and tragedies can be presented, no concerts or modern theatre like in any other ancient theatre. That's why a performance there is the hotest dream of every greek actor and not only.

Hi bud!
The full programm of the summer festivals in Greece hasn't been announced yet. When I get to know anything I'll let you know ok?
I'm living in northern Greece, in a place by the sea in the penisula of Halkidiki. Halkidiki is the perfecture with the three fingers. You can find some information in the site www.halkidiki.com Th sea around the fingers is clear and blue like on the islands and in most places even better. Halkidiki is one of the most touristic areas in Greece. If you want to visit the main land it's avery good choice. 54 km from the first finger to the north is Thessaloniki the second biggest city in Greece, the cocapital as we call it. If you want to I could look for some address in the net about hotels in the area. I hope I helped you.
On which islands have you been the last years? |

Hi Mady
I knew Mario had done some theatre but didn't know what. I wish I'd known Mario then and I bet his dancing was "hot". He looks pretty fit now. Have you been to one of these ancient theatres? So far, 2006 is a very good year for Mario.

Hi Mady
I just had a look at the link on Halkidiki. You live in a beautiful place surrounded by the ocean. A few of the people I work with have been to the Greek islands for holidays and two were married on Santorini.
Thessaloniki - isn't that where Mario performed the Sometimes I Dream concert?

Hi Trish!
Well, I' ve been in ancient theatres but only on sight seeings never in a performance. What's amazing about these theatres is the acustic. Imagine this: an actor is on the stage down in the centre of the theatre and he just says something by keeping his voice low. You will hear it even if you seat on the last seat on top of the theatre. That's why actors never use microphones even though these theatres are really big.
Santorini is my beloved island. Santorini's sunset is one of the most famous ones worldwide.
As for Thessaloniki, yes, that's the city where Mario performed the Sometimes I Dream concert. I was born there and spend the first 22 years of my life . It's the city of my heart!
This is my last message for the next days because I won't have my laptop for about a week.
Promise I'll be back and sorry if my English isn't that good.

Hi Mady
Lovely to hear from you again and your English is very good. The ancient Greek theatres sound incredible. Have you been able to go to any of these theatres in the last year?
I've started a new topic with a link to a long interview with Mario. I haven't listened to all of it yet because I can only access the site here at work. I can't access it on my home computer, probably because I'm on dial-up (narrow band). I think the interview was done a couple of years ago because it only mentions the two international albums.
We just heard on the Yahoo site that Mario's biography won't be translated into English and published. That's very disappointing for us who only speak English, but I guess it's a commercial decision.
