Monday 8th: BBC 2: 4.30 5.15: Celebrity Cash in the Attic: Superman's mum, the movie star Susannah York, invites Aled to search through her London home. She wants to raise money for two charities and, while there's no Kryptonite in sight, the team find vintage make-up accessories given to her by Joan Collins. Will they bring in the 500 pounds she needs?
Sunday 14th
* Good Morning Sunday: BBC Radio 2: 7.00 9.00 On St Valentine's Day, Aled says Good Morning Sunday to English author Joanna Trollope OBE, while Deborah Hollamby looks at the religious origins of the day that celebrates all things romantic and gives the Moment Of Reflection.

* Songs of Praise: BBC 1: 5.00 5.35: Aled seeks out examples of Christian love on St Valentine's Day. * The Choir: BBC Radio 3: 6.30 8.00 Aled introduces choral settings of WH Auden, including Britten's famous tribute to music's patron saint, and recent American works by Carson Cooman and Richard Wilson. There is an irreverent lumberjack song - written some 30 years before Monty Python. Ahead of a service to mark the 100th birthday of choirmaster Stanley Vann, Aled introduces part of one of Vann's most famous recordings - Stainer's The Crucifixion - and an exclusive excerpt from a new disc of Vann's own compositions. And Aled reveals the results of the BBC's Choral Ambition scheme - an initiative helping amateur choirs nationwide to fund new projects and commission new works.
Sunday 28th
* Good Morning Sunday: BBC Radio 2: 7.00 9.00 Aled says Good Morning Sunday to actress Lynda Bellingham, currently on tour with the play Calendar Girls. Rabbi Pete Tobias marks the festival of Purim, discusses the week's news from a faith perspective and gives the Moment Of Reflection.

* Songs of Praise: BBC 2: 4.35 -5.10: For St David's Day, Aled explores the mountains of North Wales and meets a photographer and a bishop who love the landscape. The hymns, including Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer and For All the Saints, come from St Padarn's Church at the foot of Mount Snowdon.
* The Choir: BBC Radio 3: 6.30 8.00 Aled is joined by conductor, composer and choral expert Ronald Corp for a discussion about music for children's choirs. Strongly influenced by Benjamin Britten, who wrote a significant number of works especially for children, Corp has commissioned over 40 pieces from contemporary composers for the choir to sing. Aled introduces two of his compositions - Give to my eyes Lord for children's voices and a setting of Matthew Arnold's Dover Beach for adult and children's voices. Aled is also joined by actress Josette Simon, who talks about her support of Kaos Signing Choir for Deaf and Hearing Children and explain how it works. This choir uniquely gives both deaf and hearing children the opportunity to come together and sing. Josette explains how the choir works. Including a sectional weekly rehearsal with some of the younger members, practising some of their favourite specially-composed music.
Just a personal comment - the conversation with Sandi Toksvig, repeated on Radio Wales on Sunday 14th, was great and well worth a second (or first!) listen!
As usual, Aleds appearances will be updated throughout the month as information comes through |
