Tonights the Night
BBC1 Saturday 18th April - 6:55pm - 7:55pm
Show description
A show that helps ordinary people live out their performing fantasies for real and become the most unlikely stars that Saturday evenings have ever seen. Not a fly-on-the-karaoke-bar-wall series but a sort of glitzy cross between Jim'll Fix It and Britain's Got Talent, hosted by the ubiquitous John Barrowman. The idea is that members of the public, having been tutored by Barrowman and celebrity guests, get to perform with their favourite pop group, big band or cast of a West End show. "It's fast-paced, funny and often emotional," says the publicity material promisingly and for once there's no prize other than the thrill of being centre stage on primetime telly, which is, after all, not to be sniffed at. It could be ghastly - but equally it could be great, because don't forget Britain's Got Talent sounded dire on paper.
