Classical group All Angels, who performed at yesterday’s launch at St David’s Hall, will headline the Friday evening concert on July 11.

Their repertoire is a mixture of classical, choral, opera and pop music.

The girls – Charlotte Ritchie, Melanie Nakhla, Laura Wright, and Daisy Chute – are following in the footsteps of their friend Hayley Westenra, who performed in Llangollen last year.

They said, “Hayley told us how amazing the whole event is and how the eisteddfod continues to bring new music, dance and competitors from around the world to this beautiful corner of Wales in the name of friendship and unity.”

This year’s series of Eisteddfod evening concerts will be kicked off tonight by West End and Broadway star Elaine Paige. A few tickets are still available.

Friday’s evening concert will feature All Angels, a teenage female vocal quartet. The festival ends with the competition on Saturday evening for the Pavarotti Trophy, for the best choir, and a Sunday evening opera gala featuring Elin Manahan Thomas and others. Themed days will include International Song and Dance Day tomorrow and International Celtic Day on Friday. Saturday will be aimed at families

Eisteddfod fun is all set to begin

The six-day extravaganza brings together some of the top names of the classical music scene, with the best amateur choirs and dance groups from around the globe.

Two of the highlights of the 2008 festival are tomorrow’s gala opening concert, starring West End favourite, Elaine Page, and the concert featuring all girl classical group, All Angels, with Shropshire’s Melanie Nakhla.

Girl power rules at music shows

Girl power wowed the audiences at two major events in the region as classical singing quartet All Angels and the singer songwriter Katie Melua brightened up a dreary summer night.

All Angels, featuring Shrewsbury’s Melanie Nakhla, played to a packed out pavilion at the Llangollen International musical Eisteddfod last night.
