Great review Dilog Smile

I've just been reading on another site that as well as Tim Rice being there on both nights, Bjorn Ulvaeus was also in the audience on Monday night alongside Tommy Korberg - I wish I'd seen them.

There's some great photos on icethesite.com CLICK HERE

I have read mixed reviews but it's great to see Josh has received positive feedback in all of them, below is just an example of one of them.

Josh Groban gave both purposefulness of character and clarity of voice as the Russian, Sergievsky. Musicomh.com

For me, the outstanding performers were Josh and Kerry Ellis and Stephen Disley deserves a special mention for his organ playing - Anthem sounded incredible with the orchestra, the organ and Josh.It really was the perfect song to finish part one with and thoroughly deserved the standing ovation it received. Smile

I was disappointed with the sound quality on the night and I know from reading other blogs and forum postings that I'm not the only one. Hopefully it will all be ironed out for the DVD release though. On the whole though I thought it was a wonderful evening and a great opportunity to see the musical performed by such well known names.

I saw Chess on the Monday and like you was rather disappointed in the sound quality, especially in the first half of the show - the only person I could hear clearly was Josh! Shocked
He sang beautifully and put everyone else in the shade - although Kerry Ellis was a nice surprise - she should have had the lead female vocal I think, as I was literally wincing at some of the numbers Idina Menzel screeched her way though I'm afraid. Rolling Eyes
I thought Josh was perfect for that part - and Anthem was gorgeous - even though I didn't know the words until after the show when a friend found the lyric sheet on the original album for me Very Happy
The show itself was very well put together I thought - and the orchestra and choir were great - I'd love to see Josh do some more musical theatre - fingers crossed! Laughing

PBS to Air Chess in Concert, with Menzel, Pascal and Groban, in 2009

Chess in Concert, the two-night, star-studded event that was presented at London's Royal Albert Hall May 12-13, will be aired on PBS stations across the country in 2009.

The concert will air as part of the 2008-2009 Thirteen/WNET NY's "Great Performances" season. A spokesperson for "Great Performances" told Playbill.com that the concert of the Benny Anderson-Tim Rice-Björn Ulvaeus musical will air in 2009. BBC-TV is also expected to broadcast the program.
