Mr Seckerson uses such an eloquent turn of phrase! Wink

"...The biggest success of the evening was Copley's take on Camille de Rosillon (sung by Alfie Boe), whose desperation to get laid, preferably by Baron Zeta's wife, Valencienne (the lovely Fiona Murphy), had him falling over himself like an eager puppy..."

Alot of people say the orchestra is over loud. But Alfie still gets a good review, The rest of the cast get the thumbs down. I feel sorry for these people who have got to go to see a performance they dont like.Get yourself a job you do like. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Those going to the performance tonight have been informed that they will unfortunately not see Alfie as Camille - We hope to hear very shortly that the newest little Boe has made her debut appearance instead though. Very Happy

Interesting, xcept! _ we noticed that Alfie popped in and out a bit yesterday (at the classical brits) when he could, and guessed he was ringing home to check on things at times!

It's sad for xantha and Lyndsey though..... Crying or Very sad

What's that saying "Never a truer word spoken in jest". I remember sitting at the Classical Brits and seeing Alfie leave whilst talking on his phone. I joked to Xbons that maybe his wife had gone into labour and he was off to be with her. When I arrived at the ENO the next day there were signs up everywhere saying he wouldn't be performing. I was told that the debut appearance of another Boe was imminent hence Alfie not performing.
I was a little disappointed but totally understood his reasons for not being there and at least it was good news and not that he had been ill.
There was an announcement at the beginning of the show and Alfie got a huge round of applause and cheers when they said his daughter had been born. Smile
Roy Hudd's character also made reference to baby Boe's arrival during the show. As he exited the stage he said (referring to another of the characters) "He is to diplomacy what Alfie Boe is to Family Planning". It was all meant very light hearted and the audience chuckled in appreciation.
I did enjoy the show and whilst Alfie's replacement did very well I would have loved to have seen Alfie perform. I could just imagine him performing certain parts and of course, I would have loved to have heard him sing.Still, there's always Elektra to look forward to! Smile

It was a fantastic performance on Friday night, despite the lack of Alfie. He was performing last night though, and from what I heard at the Merry Widow workshop, he was fantastic! Smile x
