Russell Watson battles back

OPERA’S man of the people Russell Watson will make his big TV comeback – just months after battling a near-fatal brain tumour.

Russell is in talks to be a judge on new BBC1 show Last Choir Standing – renamed from Choir Wars.

Be great to see you back on TV, Russ.

I think Russell will be a great and understanding/empathic judge. Especially after being judged himself on JTTOU.

Very Happy

Well done Russell, especially after the health problems he has had - he must be well recovered.

I hadn't looked at this thread before, not realising that "Choir Wars" had been renamed in this way. "Last Choir Standing" sounds so much better to my delicate ear! _ "Choir Wars" seemed to me to be a contradiction in terms! I even wrote so on the BBC message boards when the programme was discussed there - and the title ws not liked by anyone! So maybe the BBC had other similar feedback, and do listen at times!!! Laughing

Have we any ideas when the programme will be broadcast? I think it is when "Nancy" finishes?

I agree. I think once the beeb have found their Nancy, It'll be perfect timing for a new judged TV programme, as the website says BBC One.
And with Russell's concerts being until mid-July, an End of July start to the programme sounds reasonable.
Very Happy

Well it looks like we Will be seeing Russell on this show as The Chester Chronicle mentions he has started his judging with a Chester signing group.

Quote:
The Chester choir, known for its trademark sparkly handbags and pink feather boas, performed in front of a panel of expert and celebrity judges including tenor Russell Watson.

I hope I may be able to watch the show somewhere online. Confused Very Happy

It's great that Russell is at last getting the recognition he deserves, that is, being a JUDGE instead of being judged! Laughing

The Last Choir Standing homepage is now updated with info on the hosts, Judges and what the show is about.

Last Choir Standing Homepage

Quote:
Last Choir Standing starts on BBC One in June. From 60 choirs at the auditions, the panel of judges will decide which 15 will go through to the studio heats. Six choirs will then make it through to the live shows where the judges and the public will vote each week for who they want to save until there is only one - the Last Choir Standing.

and who the judges are.

Quote:
After a period out of the limelight due to ill health, Last Choir Standing heralds the return of much-loved tenor Russell Watson to primetime television. Russell has enjoyed number one success in both the British and US charts, and is credited with opening opera to a much broader audience.

It is FANTASTIC that we have official news now on Russell's Participation. Very Happy

It will be so good to see Russell on the tv each week and such good news that he has made such a wonderful recovery. I am so looking forward to seeing him in concert in June as well. I can hardly wait. It sounds as if it will be certainly something to stay in and watch in June. Good luck Russell and well done. Barbara
