Also this past week, we interviewed Stephen. He spoke about Blake's forthcoming concert, the release of the new single Hallelujah, life in the group and what he admires about his fellow group members. CLICK HERE

The guys are great to interview. As you can see from reading it, there are some light hearted moments, but Stephen also hi-lights the good work that The War Widows Association do. I hope that all of you who are attending the concert on 28th February will not only have an enjoyable evening, but will feel inspired to help raise awareness of the charity that Blake are holding the concert for. Smile

That is a nice car! Worthy of Top Gear I reckon. As Stephen seems to like fast cars, what do people reckon the chances are of him doing the 'star in a reasonably priced car' on Top Gear?

Stephen is indeed a fan of classic cars. An article that appeared in The Times last year, mentions that previously he has also bought a De Lorean (...think Back to the Future)

Kitten Liz, who turns 27 today, won the undivided attention of handsome quartet Blake when they performed at the Living Room on Victoria Street. The Classical Brit nominated boys even belted out Happy Birthday just for her."

So that's Shirley Bassey, Liz Mclarnon and Hayley Westenra who've all had happy birthday sung to them by Blake now....getting plenty of practise in before my birthday I see! Wink

Dominic Tighe receives a commendation in the 17th annual Ian Charleson Awards.

The Ian Charleson Awards are presented for outstanding performances by young actors in classical roles.The Award which is sponsored by The Sunday Times was set up in honour of Scottish Actor Ian Charleson who died from Aids 16yrs ago. Charleson was probably best known for his role as Eric Liddell in the 1981 film Chariots of Fire.

Dom received his commendation for his performance in The Taming of The Shrew playing the roles the Tailor and the Widow - roles he played just before joining Blake.Full details of the nominees and winners can be seen in this week's Sunday Times (27th April)

Congratulations Dom on your award - fingers crossed you'll be adding a Brit Award to your collection soon.

Jules has written an article about the artist Jack Vettriano which appeared in The Times Online (27th April 2008)

When I was at St Andrews Jack Vettriano came along to the university to give a talk. I've been a huge fan of his work ever since. St Andrews is like a second home to me, I try to get up there as often as I can. Vettriano's paintings remind me of my time up in Scotland.

My favourite is The Billy Boys, which shows four guys walking along the beach wearing fedora hats. I love the fact that so many of his paintings are set on vast sandy beaches. At first glance they seem like American coastal landscapes but are, in fact, more often than not the windy, rain-swept shores of

St Andrews, Kirkcaldy and the other seaside towns of Fife. His style is very film noir, very similar to another one of my favourite painters, Edward Hopper. He did a lot of seaside paintings of Massachusetts that became known as the Hopper landscape. Vettriano's beaches are like that - the Vettriano landscape.

In Only the Deepest Red a woman sits by a window with her legs resting on a table, it's an erotic image of a beautiful girl with long legs in a short shirt. There is an element of voyeurism in looking at the painting.

When I went to drama school after university I reassessed my decision to study history of art. I realised that the kind of art I like was filmic, and that my love of Vettriano stemmed from that. I love the way he stages his paintings - his use of light in particular is very cinematic.

A lot of art critics call his work vulgar and devoid of imagination but I couldn't disagree more. I suspect there is a hint of snobbery and even jealousy, not only because he is self-taught and didn't take the conventional art school route but because he has been so successful. I had a poster of The Waltzers on my wall when I was at university so I guess I was one of “the masses” whose love of Vettriano irks the critics so.
