Post subject: Russell - Blogs
It has been announced on Russell's Official Site that Russell will be doing a weekly blog. So I've started this thread for those who may not be able to see it on The OS. And also for us here at CX to talk about it. And it will be kept updated as and when Russell posts.

Russell’s First Blog!
As a new feature on the site Russell will be writing a blog to keep us up to date with his progress and what he's up to.
We've got the very first blog today:
Hello, hello, is this thing on? Right, assuming you can hear me out there in Internet land, I’ll get on with it, shall I? It’s Russell here, and this is the first of my (drum roll) weekly blogs aimed at letting you know how I’m getting on. Not just with the treatment but with other stuff as well; believe it or not, there’s plenty going on. I can’t promise you a fulsome essay, I’m afraid, because as you probably know, I’m currently undergoing radiotherapy five days a week. But I promise I will try and do my best to keep you updated, even if it’s just the odd snippet.
Firstly, the good news. I’m keeping fit and well, the treatment has started and I’m knuckling down to it. It goes on for another three weeks and I’m determined that by the time it’s over I’ll have zapped this bloody thing for good (excuse my French). The bad news is that they say the side-effects don’t make themselves known for quite some time after the radiotherapy has ended. So, whilst I feel okay now, it could be that in a fortnight’s time I’ll feel really low again. I certainly can’t complain, though. The staff at the Christie have been superb, I’ve had so much great support from friends and family, plus visiting the site to see your messages on the forum really lifts my spirits. So a big thank you very much to everyone who’s taken the time to log in and write, not to mention all the lovely cards and messages I’ve received.
Lots of love,
Russell
xx

I think it's great that Russell has decided to do this. As I hear many singers, actors etc keep their fans up to date on things via blogs. I hope it continues even after Russell is recovered and continues to be a permanent thing.
It's great that it's not just the radiotherapy that Russell will be talking about as we love him for much more than just his illness.
Thanks Russell

Isn't he an absolute star?
What a guy! It's so nice to hear that he's feeling positive about everything, and that he knows how much his fans support him and care for him.
Keep it up, Russell - you WILL beat this thing!

More news from Russell!
Hello, it’s Russell here again and this is the second of my weekly blogs, coming to you from behind a lovely mountain of cards. I’ve got to say, I have been completely bowled over by the amount of mail I’ve had and I want to thank everybody who’s taken the time to put something together, whether it’s a big card with lots of your pictures (you know who are you!), or just a small note wishing me well, they all mean so much. So thank you.
Right: the treatment. Well the good news is I still have my hair (a nurse even seemed slightly disappointed. ‘Oh,’ she said, ‘it’s normally started falling out by now.’ Then again I’m anything but normal...). The bad news is that when I have bad days they’re very bad, and I find myself fighting mood swings, aches and pains, severe lethargy… the works. I can’t lie: when it’s bad, it’s very bad. Still, the end is in sight; I’m well over halfway to the end of my treatment, and I’m more determined than ever to finally wave goodbye to my little friend upstairs.
When I’m not having my brain zapped by lazers I’ve been working on my book. As many of you have pointed out on the autobiography thread, It’s called Finding My Voice. I don’t want to say too much, but I can reveal that it’s still in the process of being written in an attempt to make it as up-to-date as I can possibly manage – plus there are plenty of funny, scary and just downright strange stories in it. A bit of light (and sometimes not-so light) reading just in time for your summer holidays.
Speak to you next week, lots of love,
Russell

That was a lovely second blog post from Russell. And altho his recovery sounds like it may be a bit rough at times I hope the good days outweigh the bad.

Blog Part 3!
Russell reporting! Well, sitting here writing this, the end is very much in sight. Tomorrow (that’s Tuesday) will be my final day of radiotherapy. Let me just double-check that. Yes, definitely the final day. It’s been no walk in the park; I’ve had my moments under that machine where I just wanted to stop the bloody thing and walk away, but thoughts of Rebecca and Hannah kept me going, plus the fact that every day in the machine has brought the end that little bit closer.
Still, I’m not out of the woods yet. I dearly wanted to keep the side-effects to a minimum and I’ve been keeping myself fit and healthy as I can, but I’m afraid they’ve caught up with me, and I don’t mind admitting I’ve not been myself. I’m just so lucky I’ve had friends, family, and of course my fans to help me through; I really don’t think I could do this without the support I’ve had. I’ve also got to thank the Christie, of course. I’m sure they’ll be glad to see the back of me tomorrow and though I won’t be too sorry to wave goodbye to them either, I’m going to miss some friendly and familiar faces. Everybody there has been brilliant. They’ve really put me at my ease and helped me through a difficult time. I can’t thank them enough.
Oh one last thing, the hair report: well, it’s still hanging in there! Then again, you know what they say. Hair today…
Speak next week,
Russell

I'm glad Russell's radiotherapy is almost over. It cant be much fun, altho it was very necessary for his recovery. As Russell is such a lovely person I bet the nurses will miss him but will also be happy to see the back of him as that means he's all well again. I hope this is the last of all the suffering for Russell and that his body starts saying, 'That's it enough of being ill and causing you hassle Russell. Lets live life again and have lots of Fun.'
take care Russell

It's so good of Russell to take the time and trouble to keep us up to date.
Hopefully, the radiotherapy will have done its job, and he will be back to full health - and his cheeky self!- again.
Keep your chin up, Russell! You're doing great!
