Daily Express 28.01.08

Pipes like Pavarotti

Only a few years ago, G4 frontman Jonathan Ansell was busking behind The Royal Opera House whenever his hero Pavarotti, appeared there.

Now the classically trained tenor, 25, is to portray the man himself in a Las Vegas theatre spectacular that will follow the life of Pavarotti – who died in September last year aged 71 – from his birth in Modena, Italy, in 1935 to the opera houses of New York, Milan and London.

Those in the know say that Jonathan’s voice made him an obvious choice.
“What makes him so special is that he can effortlessly hit high C’s in the way Pavarotti did nine times in one Aria at New York’s Metropolitan Opera,” says our source.

“He’s beaten off competition from US star Josh Groban to win the role, which is impressive.”

Daily Mail 28.01.08

Having launched a solo career and signed a £1 million deal with Universal Music, ex-G4 star Jonathan Ansell has now won a worldwide quest to find an opera singer good enough to portray Luciano Pavarotti in a new stage show.

Ansell, 26, whose effortless ability to high high C’s, just like Pavarotti, got him the role, will play the great tenor in Las Vegas for 6 months followed by a run at the London Palladium. The only problem is: he is slim and blond and doesn’t look the least bit like the gargantuan Italian. This apparently, doesn’t matter: ‘It’s amazing what a wig, a fake moustache and vast layers of foam can do,’ explains his manager, Jonathan Shalit. However, when Ansell had his first fat-suit fitting, he couldn’t reach down to tie up his own shoelaces.

Luckily the show’s producer, David King, was on hand in the casting room to tie them for him.

Must admit I was the same Mo-the NOTW not usually a very good source for facts. But when the paper G4 turned to to announce their split (The Mail) also says it's true written by Richard Kay and with a quote from Jonathan Shailt ..add to that The Express having the story also ..i'm starting to believe there might be some truth in this.Very exciting if true Very Happy -just hope we get some official confirmation soon if it's true.

Dave - that is priceless. Made me laugh out loud. I think the hanky was the final straw! LOL!

I hope someone lets us know soon whether there is any truth in this. Jon could play the young Pavarotti beautifully I think - he can surely reach those high notes that's for sure.

Love Molly xx Smile
