Thanks to Willowy on G4-Online for this extra piece of news she found in the Portsmouth local newspaper
http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/portsmouth/Singer-lands-1m-solo-record.3373726.jp
Bognor-born Jonathan said: 'It's amazing. I've been in negotiations with EMI, Universal and Sony since G4 split – and Universal came up with the best deal – one where I get the greatest creative input.
I'm starting work on the first album within the next couple of weeks. I'll be laying down the vocals. It will be classical music that will appeal to the sort of people who listen to Classic FM.
'It's music that's my true identity – not confusing as G4 was with its cross-over appeal. But at the same time it'll still be exciting.
'The music will include soundtracks from films such as Gladiator, Dances with Wolves and Gone with the Wind, but with orginal lyrics.
'I haven't spoken to the other members of G4 about it yet, but I got an email from Mike today. He's at college not far from where I live so we'll meet up soon for a pint.'
......................
This is fantastic!! At last Jon has found the right combination of management and record companies to allow him to use his creativity and go in the direction of his wishes. Plus the fact I am absolutely delighted with his choices so far and I feel his career will go a very long way.
Good luck Jon |

Great to see all this promo since yesterday .
Certainly makes a change from the G4 days, when promo was not an issue it seemed
Great that he is getting some creative input as well with this record deal. Hope we get some Jonathan Ansell originals at some point in the 5 albums !
Loving the extra info about the soundtracks being discussed to being on the album. Have every faith in Jon making a trukly great job of them and can't wait until the album comes out now. Just hope he is allowed to post a couple of tracks on his MySpace page though as he said he would to let us know what we have in store !!!! |

From ClassicFM website ----
Former opera group G4 lead singer Jonathan Ansell has signed a solo deal with Universal Music Group.
The young singer, who shot to fame three years ago with pop opera group on TV programme X-Factor, signed the solo deal representing an investment of ÂŁ1 million over five albums with Universal.
Initially, Universal wanted to sign classically-trained Jonathan when he was in the X-factor three years ago, but were unable to as he was contracted to Simon Cowell’s record label. G4 went on to sell two million albums worldwide.
“It’s been an amazing journey to this point," he says. "And I think at the start of this new chapter in my career, anything is possible.”
"Quality and talent win through," says his new manager Jonathan Shalit, the man who discovered Charlotte Church. "I wanted to work with him the very first time I saw him on stage. G4 was great for him, but his solo career is long overdue."

Definately agree with that statement and nice to hear it from JS as well. He sounds a positive kind of guy and sure he will get Jonathan the recognition he so rightly deserves |

Great that he's got someone supportive behind him at last - if only G4 had had someone like JS we might have had them for a bit longer!
But everything happens for a reason they say - and it really looks as though great things could be ahead for our Jonathan - fingers crossed!

Thanks Cathy - all the information we are getting is very comforting that Jon really does have good people behind him now and he is being looked after properly with regards to the music etc.
I agree with Jaydh - its a crying shame that G4 had to go with Sony/BMG initially - things might have been very different if they had been free to go with Universal from the very first.
But - nothing to be done now - I thank the Lord that we have Jonathan and his music - and maybe Ben and Mike too in the future.
And I'll never give up hope that Matt one day might want to come back to us.
Love Molly xx |

I was expecting Cfm website to have this news . They must have reported the news on the day, if I was listening to the radio. Blake has just done the 'Cfm Take Over'. G4's takeover must have proved success and they are repeating it. I hope Jon will appear to do his 'takeover' ...in February |

Agree Molly, if G4 had gone with Universal and not felt so obliged to Sony and SC then who knows, they might still be with us, but the positive is that Jonathan is now with them and judging by the amount of promo he has had this last week, he will do very well I'm sure
Take That went out on a high as did G4 and they came back 10 years later to phemonenal success, so you never know and the guys have all said 'never say never' !!!
Would be great if Jon was invited as a 'takeover' guest on Classic FM in the future |

This is so all exciting!! I love the direction Jon is taking with his career. I have always wanted G4 to do more classical tracks but were never allowed to so I am very happy Jon is taking this route.
A classical album with a movies theme? Just perfect and I cannot wait to hear some tracks. I also hope some lesser known arias are also included but maybe that would be better for the second album!! Bit greedy me
I like the idea of a Classic FM take over and I also hope that Jon can spare a bit of time to record a couple of videos for CFMTV to keep us going until he starts a concert tour next year - it will be a long time to wait to see him in action if not.
Good luck with it all Jon |
