I just seen an advert for a new tenor on the block -CORTES. He sounds really good. Katherine Jenkins has already recorded a duet with him.
I looked him up on HMV and he's from ICELAND

I discovered Gardar through coverege of the Classical Brits Awards on the All Angels International forums... and what can I say? I immediately fell in love.
(Oooh, the agony of waiting for my next paycheck so I can order the CD!!) _________________ www.click-studios.com

I went to see Gardar at the Barbican last night what a fantastic night it was his guest was SIGRUN HJALMTRSDOTTIR better known as DIDDU, she is one of ICELAND'S most popular singers.
The conductor for the evening was a very special guest it was Gardar Cortes snr who had flown over. What a proud dad he was at one point as Gardar stood waiting to sing his farther brushed his cheek how proud was he of his son.
He started by singing
Nella Fantasia, Lontano, Hunting High and Low,
then he then sang a duet with Diddu The Prayer
Diddu sang Il Bacio and Mein Herr Marquis.
Cortes then sang Romanza and Granada.
Interval
Cortes and Diddu sang O Soave Fanciulla.
Cortes Mattinata, Luna
Diddu Casta Diva, E'starno
Cortes and Diddu Rigoletto
Cortes Caruso and Nessun Dorma.
He got a well deserved standing ovation
I hope that this will be the first of many concerts next year and of course in the mean time we can go and see him supporting Lesley Garrett
managed to get some pics and was able to catch up with him later
one during the concert, thats a proud dad next to him.

He lacked interaction with the audience I felt, as neither he, his guest nor his Father said anything, it was just come on sing, go off again.
Hope Leasley can change all that as he was quite good, but he was very nervous to begin with _________________

I also went to the Barbican and thought it was just missing something The programme was beautifully put together with a full orchestra, nicely judged mixture between orchestral pieces, solo tenor, solo soprano and duets.
But it seemed more like a radio or Friday Night is Music Night production as I was not really sure the point of actually being there as there was no acknowledgement of the audience at all - and at FNIMN you get lots of interaction with the people even if not during the actual broadcast . I can understand him being very nervous and possibly not wanting to 'chat' with the audience but not even a 'hello' or 'thanks for coming and for your support' as he certainly got a wonderful reception and we know he has a lovely speaking voice and does not have a problem with English.
Maybe it is a cultural thing but it did rather take the shine off the overall experience |
