I've not heard they released it rainy. just to deviate slightly On a thread on RWUK, someone asked if Johnny Mathis recorded this originally. I've since found out it was Harry Belafonte. Just a piece of useless info Smile

I'll add another useless piece Laughing It's the tune of a German pop song of the '70s... It is called something like "Tears don't lie" (that's only the English translation, of course Laughing).

No, they didn't release it (good thing too... not a very interesting song). They have only ever released Bohemium Rhapsody as a single which reached number 9 in the charts. I believe they are going to release 'First Of May' with Robin Gibb as a single very soon... I really think they shouldn't...

They should release 'Another Day'. Very Happy

By the way, I know of a very interesting site
www.everyhit.com
You can type in any artist and it will show all of their top 40 hits at their highest position. I find this site invaluable!

G4 did release When A Child is Born as a single together with First of May as a double A side on the 19th December. Smile

However it was not eligible for the charts due to the inclusion of a sticker!

I agree that Another Day would make a great single as would You're the Voice or Barcelona.

That must be why it passed me by Laughing That is a bit strange. Most CDs have stickers on them do they not? Alright then, I know both of them songs are christmassy... but they are very poor songs to release a single. They should be happy, the ban would have saved them potential embarressment. I don't think they are the type of band to release singles into the mainstream anyway. Good thing, as a lot of people think the lower your singles chart the less of a success you are.

Enya gets in the 30's when she releases singles... does that mean she is 'fading' out? Not really... Wink

I agree. They are album sellers not single sellers. Smile

And yes it does seem that people think if a single charts low then the artist is somehow a failure which of course is not true.

Album sales are what counts to the record companies and the singles chart is on its last legs anyway. Occasionally you get a big seller but mostly singles sell too little to be profitable and are used mainly as promotion tools for albums.

I dont know whether G4's record company will release any more singles off the album - personally I think if they were going to, they should have released a single before the album was released not afterwards and certainly not in amongst the general melee of the Christmas releases. But in the end it was all immaterial anyway as the sticker made it ineligible. Smile

Hey Ellie, you should read all the posts before you jump the gun Smile

Normally G4 can do something with even the worst songs, they did nothing for 'A Child Is Born' and how could they? it's such a dire song (it's my Mums favourite Christmas song, but she likes undramatic simple songs).

I think Louis Walsh chose that song for them.
OT: I really dislike Louis Walsh Laughing

I like the song too Ellie-May and I thought G4 sang it beautifully. Smile

Especially when they were appearing on tv shows and singing it live. The live version brought out the lovely harmonies sung by Mike, Ben and Matt.

I do think though that as a song it was a bit too unchallenging for G4 - nothing to get their teeth into and they should have brought out the fabulous version of Mary's Boy Child that they sang on Radio 2 on Christmas Eve.

But there you go - perhaps next Christmas!

Precisely my thoughts on the matter of that song.
