Aled and Hayley are singing at Lincoln castle tonight, and xantha has just pointed out to me that there will be three classicalx artists supporters there! Is this a record?
The weather so far is lovely - long may it continue! |

Just in from a really enjoyable concert at Lincoln, where luckily the weather held well! A lovely varied programme, orchestral pieces, solos from both Hayley and Aled, and three duets!
Aled, poor fellow, had had two performance for Chitty in Cardiff on Saturday, followed by the broadcast of Good Morning Sunday from Manchester on the way to Lincoln! And was heading back to London as he is presenting the Terry Wogan show at 7.00 tomorrow morning (and then back to Cardiff for the evening performanc of Chitty!) But managed pretty well in the circumstances
A more detailed report will be submitted in a day or two, but it was certainly a very enjoyable evening for all concerned |

It was a brilliant concert! Luckily the rain managed to stay away for the duration of the concert, although some raindrops threatened us at the beginning.
Aled and Hayley were both in fine voice as usual and the orchestra was good.
I was able to see Hayley after the concert and was also able to say hello to Aled's MD briefly. It was lovely to see everyone there - some I already knew and others I met for the first time tonight. x |

It was a great evening, and I was glad I was able to go last minute, thanks to xbons. It was lovely meeting up. And both Aled and Hayley were amazing. They were brilliant in their own segments and shone when they sang together too. |

We were delighted you could join us, xrainy - it all worked out so well. And I'm so pleased you enjoyed it all, and your father also.
Aled and Hayley were indeed lovely duetting, weren't they - but then they know each other so well. Hayley was introduced to the British public, as it were, when she accompanied Aled on one of his tours a few years ago, and the rapport is clearly there - I saw him wink at her a couple of times!
On the way home, Dawn and I called in on the husband of the lady who was ufortunately unable to go, and we were able to tell him about how everything had worked out and give him a card of condolence signed by Aled.
So, if Aled and Hayley come back to Lincoln - are you joining us again? The initial, admittedly brief, report from "This is Lincolnshire" is very positive! So they might be asked back, who knows?

| I am not totally sure about this - I know that Hayley was on with Russell Watson on his tour and I saw them in early 2002 and I belive that was her 1st time over here after they had appeared together in a concert in New Zealand |

Agreed R2! I've heard many claims of when and which artist Hayley first performed with and of which performance actually launched her career here in the UK.
I think its fair to say that her signing to Decca and the promo which followed introduced her to most people. Obviously she was paired with other performers from her label for appearances and as a guest at their concerts as part of that introduction but I'm sure a kind Hayley fan may be able to tell us more.
Thanks everyone for the reports on the concert, it was obviously enjoyed! |

Well, after searching the internet for info, it looks as if you are right, R2 and xcept - apologies!
I had always understood that Hayley was "introduced" by Aled. However, as far as I can gather, it appears that Hayley did indeed sing with Russell Watson in Februray 2002, and was on Aled's tour in September 2003 -quite a time difference! Perhaps part of the affinity between them is that they share the same manager, then?!
Yes, xcept - the concert was enjoyed - an understatement!

They are with the same record label. Other artists on the same label are often guests/support acts at concerts |

"All I ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera, another duet performed with Hayley Westenra (from the concert at Lincoln, August 24th 2008) has been added. This was the second duet Aled and Hayley sang together.
The Welsh flag that you see waved across once or twice was carried by Joe (aged 5!), one of our party. "I'm glad to see that flag" Aled had said earlier "I'm glad you came young man!" Joe was right chuffed!
This was probably my favourite duet of the evening... |

Hi!
Chuffed he is!! Joe now goes around telling people Aled Jones is the best singer in the universe! How right he is!
What a fantastic evening the Lincoln castle was! Both Joe and Toby loved it too! A wonderful mix of music both singing and orchestral! Aled is always amazing to watch/listen too with his personality and humour and amazing talent shining through!
He is amazing to do as much as he does; Chitty one night, GMS and Lincoln the next day and radio and Chitty the next! I hope he manages to get a break soon!
It would be fab if he did Lincoln again! We would certainly love to go again! We were so lucky with the weather being perfect, a great group of people and amazing music! Could the evening have been any better? I think not!

I'm with you all the way, Sara, as you know!
On a more serious note, the review of the Lincoln concert is now in the review section |
