Many congratulations to Only Men Aloud who won Last Choir Standing last Saturday. I thought they thoroughly deserved it after giving such wonderful performances. Smile

And fresh, or not so fresh (!) from their victory Saturday night, they hot-footed it back to Cariff and were interviewed by Aled on 'Good Morning Sunday'! And sang live in the studio.

I am a huge fan of Only Men Aloud - their voices are superb.

Many congratulations to them for winning Last Choir Standing.

Royal date for Ross after choir wins TV show battle

AN ABERTILLERY member of Only Men Aloud has spoken of his busy week after winning BBC’s national competition Last Choir Standing.

Ross Leadbetter, 24, of Cwm Farm Close, was one of the 18 singers from the Cardiff-based choir who won the British public’s vote last weekend in the final of the popular contest and he has had a busy few days after getting his first taste of fame.

After winning the final in London based on the Saturday night the triumphant choir returned to Cardiff at 3am on Sunday morning.

After a few hours’ sleep they had to make an early morning appearance on the Aled Jones Radio Wales show at 8am before performing with Katherine Jenkins in a special concert that was filmed for Songs of Praise.

During the first week the choir also performed in several concerts including one in West Wales and one in Cardiff’s City Hall.

“I have had an extremely busy couple of weeks,” said Ross, who also teaches piano.

“When we were on Last Choir Standing we were rehearsing at least four hours a day in Cardiff from Monday to Thursday.

“We would then travel to London where we would rehearse all day Friday and Saturday before the show on a Saturday night.

“The actual final was incredible, there was so many mixed emotions, we were all so nervous and I can’t describe the feeling I had when we were waiting for the results, I could feel my heart beating. All the choirs were very good and we were all extremely proud on the Saturday because it was an all Wales final. We were all so chuffed when they revealed we would be performing on the Royal Variety Show, we genuinely had no idea and we are all looking forward to playing on the London Palladium in front of Prince Charles.”

Aled Jones is joined by Only Men Aloud, the winners of BBC One's Last Choir Standing, for a Welsh Big Sing from Saint David's Hall in
Cardiff. There is music from composer Karl Jenkins and soprano Elin
Manahan Thomas and a feast of favourite Welsh hymns including Cwm
Rhonda.
