* The Choir: BBC radio 3 6.30 – 8.00 Aled presents a concert given in Bath Abbey by the Great Voices of Bulgaria, in front of a capacity audience at the Bath International Festival of Music earlier this month.
The Great Voices of Bulgaria, founded in 1971 by the father of the choir's current conductor, have become well known for their arresting style of singing and have helped to make Bulgaria's vibrant folk tradition world famous. Here, they perform the distinctive and often plangent traditional folksongs for which they are known. Unusually, however, they also include religious songs from the Orthodox Church, and conductor Ilya Mihaylov explains to Aled that although modern Bulgarian churches typically use classically trained voices in their services, the folk voices and style may be more authentic. He argues that when this music was originally written, the only voices available to sing it would have been traditional folk choirs.
Wednesday 25th Grassington Festival Aled, accompanied by the fabulous London Community Gospel Choir, in a collaboration which is being specially created for Grassington.

Sunday 29th
* Good Morning Sunday: BBC radio 2 7.00.- 9.00 Aled says Good Morning Sunday to Italian rock singer Zucchero, following his performance at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday concert on 27 June in London's Hyde Park.
Also on this week's programme, Rabbi Pete Tobias talks about some of the issues of the week from a faith perspective.
* Aled Jones: Radio Wales. 10.00 – 11.00 Another chance to hear Aled sharing music and conversation with the late Humphrey Lyttleton.
* The Choir: BBC radio 3 6.30 – 8.00 Aled conducts an exclusive interview with the choral world's current hot propety, Nevadan-born Eric Whitacre, who turned from teenage hellraiser to choir-lover literally overnight and is now one of the most successful choral composers around.

Keep checking back - Aled's appearances will be updated throughout the month as usual

Is it ever anything different, xantha?! Laughing

I saw Aled last night at Friday Night is Music Night; he is all over the place at the minute, doing bits for the summer highlights programmes of Songs of Praise - he was in Bangor and Chester this past week, and flew back from York Thursday night. This week, off to Winchester, and I can't remember where else!

Chitty rehearsals start on June 7th (I think) but are fortunately in London until moving to Cardiff on June 27th.

Incidentally the guests on Good Morning Sunday tomorrow include China Forbes of Pink Martini tomorrow, a very interesting group from the USA Very Happy
