Second Classical Brit nomination announced today for Alfie at the Classical Brits 2008

Nominees announced include Alfie Boe, 34, who was working in a garage when his tenor voice was discovered more than a decade ago by one of his customers.

Boe, who went on to have classical training, win a recording contract, and release several albums following his discovery, is up for Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year.

The tenor, who has never won a Classical Brit before, is the only artist to receive more than one nomination in this year's awards.

Thats an interesting opinion Margaret. I'm sure Alfie and all his fellow nominees for the category are delighted for him though. Smile

I did think the same thing at the time Margaret - it seemed strange to have a conductor nominated in the same category as singers and solo musicians.

Whilst Alfie didn't win the award he definitely won a lot of respect from people during the evening. As Sir Colin Davies came down from the stage after collecting his award, just one person from amongst all the artists, stood up and applauded his win - that person was Alfie. I think it showed what a good sport Alfie is and just how genuinely a nice guy he is. It was also lovely that when he and Neil, his manager arrived, he spotted me in the crowd and came over and said hello. I hadn't recognised him at first as he is sporting a moustache for his appearance in The Merry Widow but there's no mistaking that smile of his. It was a real shame that he didn't win in either of his nominated categories but I guess the best award of all came in the form of Baby Grace the following day. Smile
