X Factor star tops classical charts1 hour ago
A former busker and star of the X Factor became the youngest tenor ever to reach the top of the classical charts.
Jonathan Ansell was part of four-man operatic group G4, which came second in the 2004 version of the TV talent contest, and his debut solo album Tenor at the Movies has beaten off competition from established singers to take the number one spot.
The record, which features famous film theme tunes, also stormed into the pop albums chart at number nine.
The 25-year-old said he was delighted by the album's success, and is now in talks to star as his idol Luciano Pavarotti in a tribute show in Las Vegas.
"It's incredibly exciting," he said.
"I'm completely over the moon that I could have been a student three and a half years ago and now I'm top of the classical charts. It's a childhood dream come true."
At the same age, other famous tenors had enjoyed rather less success: Russell Watson was working as a bolt-cutter and singing in working men's clubs, while Pavarotti was a footballer studying opera.
Ansell, who grew up in Bognor Regis, East Sussex, formed G4 with three friends while studying at the Guildhall School of Music.
They busked in London's Covent Garden before achieving stardom through the X Factor - where Mr Nasty Simon Cowell predicted stardom for Ansell.
His ultimate ambition is to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, he said.

Congratulations to Jonathan - this is such wonderful news at the start of his solo career. 
He so deserves it - he has worked so hard and produced a beautiful album that he can be rightly proud of.
Hopefully this is just the beginning for him and he will go on and become the great success his talent deserves him to be.
Im so proud of him.

Number 9 mainstream chart ,
but even more special .number ONE CLASSICAL CHART,
and to be the youngest Tenor ,to get to number one ,amazing

How brilliant is this wonderful news -and that Jon has a top ten album in Brits week makes the achievement all the more special I think.
Youngest tenor to have a classical number 1 -Jon must be thrilled
He can be so proud of his beautiful album.

Lets hope for good chart positions this week.
So far Woolworths, Asda and WH Smiths have him at No 1 in their store charts - so fingers crossed.

It's great our Jonathan's at No. 1, thanks for posting Marian.
I came on here through a round-a-bout way tonight, was looking at Bryn Terfil site, he's inviting international stars to appear in the Eisteddfford. I wonder if he would invite Jonathan as he's top of the classical chart.
I know he's not international yet, but he will be soon. It's in Cardiff too.
Well done Jonathan, I'm thrilled to bits for you.

He so deserves this as he is an amazing singer. Couldn't get on here on Sunday due to being busy on Jonathan's OS, but absolutely thrilled for him 
NO 1 !!!!
