Yet another brilliant day was had by all. The weather was kind, if somewhat chilly as Cathy and I arrived at the RAH after missing Jonathan arrive by only a few minutes - flaming London traffic!!

Anyway, we hung around just in case he was to pop his head out but we were told he wouldn't as he was going to be at door 3 straight after the show for signings and photos. That cheered us up no end. We all headed in various directions to while the time away and a lot of us went upstairs to eat the Consort Cafe mainly to get out of the wind!!

Time flew by and soon out ranks grew. I think there were about 30 of us in the end. We gradually took our places -most of the 4th row was us and many more behind and in the stalls too.

We first heard the orchestra alone and then Lang Lang came on and did a very long piece. He is an excellent pianist but he was also quite odd - getting carried away with the music and came out with some very strange facial expressions!! He got a standing ovation from a few folk too.

The next act - the main event as far as we were concerned came on. Simon Bates introduced him and then Jonathan came out from the wings smiling. He was wearing his black suite, white shirt and black tie and looked perfect for the setting. He launched straight into the Godfather. Lovely to hear that sung live and of course he put his all into the song.

Jonathan seemed very happy on stage and was standing on the left side of the stage near the conductor, who seemed VERY young!! He sang to the whole audience, looking around and engaging a few eyes along the way. He then sang My Own True Love which was superb and that last note certainly hit the spot again. It seemed to echo around the hall for ages.

The applause erupted immediately and continued for ages. He went off stage only to return for a final bow. The applause grew louder and as if as one, the entire group of us stood up and gave him a standing ovation. Jonathan was grinning form ear to ear.

Very quickly after that, Blake came on to close the first half. Well, I gave then a fair hearing and as pleasant as they were, they did nothing to change my opinion of their music - it's still bland! Both Lang Lang and Jonathan came on for a final bow but Blake just went off never to be seen again. I chuckled silently!

It was very hot in the auditorium and also very cramped so Cathy and I decided to stay in the bar after the interval soon to be joined by a couple of friends, so we spent a lovely time chatting and then made our way round to the door where Jonathan would be signing.

A table had been laid out with a cloth for him and Ruth Palmer. Ruth came out first and Jonathan came out a few minutes later. The RAH didn't reckon on so many people wanting to meet Jonathan so they had to move the table so he wouldn't be so crushed!!

He spent at least 30 minutes with us all, signing chatting and posing for photos and again it wasn't rushed and he was very happy to see so many of us. Always had a genuine smile on his face and that laugh just kept on coming.

I asked if he had any more TV appearances coming up and he did mention another cookery programme he was doing off the back of CDWM - I cannot recall the name at the moment and I asked if he had considered Celebrity Masterchef and he said it was definitely in the pipeline.

The Ansell family was there in force tonight to support him and they were milling around with us and posed for a lovely family photo. Soon it was time to go and he waved us all goodbye.

As Cathy and I left we bumped into him and the family again by their cars so another wave goodnight was made and we made our way home.

So all in all a brilliant night with Jonathan on top form. He seems so at home at the RAH and it was great to see him there - roll on the Classical Brits!! Very Happy

Thanks for the great review Marian - and the news that the concert will be broadcast at some point on CFM radio!! Woo Hoo!!!!

Thanks to xantha and xcept for that great news too!!!! Smile

I've just spent a very happy hour poring over the reviews and photos and little video over on Jonathans OS - its wonderful that folks share the night with those of us who cannot be there. Many thanks everyone.

Im so pleased that it all went so well for Jonathan and that he got such great applause and came back on stage for more applause - thats so good to hear. And so good to know that so many fans went to support him.

And another cookery programme!!!! He is turning into the singing Chef! Laughing

Looking forward to that - when it comes on.

Love Molly xx Smile

Bit late - but after a very nice chat and eat in Cafe Concert we found our seats in the 4th row of the arena and waited for the evening to begin. The programmes were sitting on our seats and the front cover was very much the billboard of a cinema and JA had second billing after Lang Lang.

I had thought the programme seemed a bit unbalanced but wondered if they would change it but no it was as billed. So first on stage Simon Bates introducing the evening - not quite sure what his objectives were as the links were not of the standard of Paul Gambaccini but nice - he did say that the show was being recorded and would be broadcast so you can all hear it soon. First introduction Royal Liverpool Philharmonic with conductor Vasily Petrenko - and like policemen conductors are getting younger - the theme from the Great Escape.

Then the Intro of the main event - Lang Lang at his Steinway - spent a long time playing with the piano stool to ensure it was the right height - could not really understand this as there had been someone special introduced with a gag - to life the lid! Now he probably was quite wonderful but from where I was sitting it did not seem to quite work and went on far too long.

So after a piano move and a bit of a break a certain blond of our acquaintance is introduced and after the rapturous applause for the pianist he had quite a tall order but as ever he was more than up to the challenge, singing just two tracks from Godfather and Gone with the Wind, which left me far from satisfied, he was at his stunning best and gained more rapturous applause and was asked back on stage to take another bow. Job very well done but I really do think he needs to get another dinner suit - this one is a little over used these days

Next up Blake - now they are not bad but they are not particularly different or special and the track selection could certainly not compete with what went before so was a bit of a downer for the close of the first half.

Second half was more movie themes from the orchestra but included a fleeting appearance from violinist Ruth Palmer - very sweet but wearing a slightly unwise white Grecian style dress.

We left to find JA promised to be signing at Door 3 - and after a little wait and the arrival of a lot of familiar waifs and strays - he appears looking very happy and spent quite some time with everyone - I am sure more gossip and pics will appear soon.

Which brings me to my overall summing up of the evening - like the great Eric Morecambe said 'all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order' and this was my problem with the evening - why start with the main attraction and essentially the evening had to go down from there? ClassicFM had some great performers here but their order of service left a lot to be desired and as every one of the soloists stayed till the end to sign albums I have no idea why they planned it the way they did.

But for Jonathan it was a triumph and I hope he managed to sell more album as a result although the £15 price tag at the RAH would i suspect not be the retailer of choice.

My review from Jonathan's OS
Jonathan is marvallous--------oh you know that alreadyBig Smile

Ok then heres my review

I got to RAH around noon Trudi was already there

1pm Blake arrived

chatted to them for short time

1.15sh Our Lad Jonathan arrived

Ruth had phoned me and had asked if she missed Jonathan could I let her know

I did better then that I got Jonathan to speak to her on my phone

Cathy came then Marian we waited incase Jonathan came out

More friends came

We were told Jonathan will be signing afterwards and to make our way when Star Wars started by door number 9

Trudi her friend Mary and I went to find somewhere to eat

Came back

Gradualy more of our friends came

Julie and Stephie

Jaqui arrived wih her Mum

Ruth and her hubby arrived

Went in caught up with Mandy

Concert Lang Lang I afraid it was not my cup of tea

Talking to lady next to me----told her about Jonathan maybe I got new fan now for Jonathan

Then Jonathan

I was up among the gods in the circle so my view was not the best

Godfather followed by My Own True Love

Sheer heaven

Heleft stage and he went back to the audiance again clapping was great

Blake next I enjoyed their songs but once lest the stage they did not come back

2nd act of concert was most enjoyable

Stars Wars ---just before it started I left the dizzy heights of the gods or rather the circle

dashed to door 9 where Jonathan was

He was told he now at door 3

Like the piped piper he lead the way to door 3

I was rather butter fingers and for some reason I got the shakes trying to get my programm to sign and ticket and taking photos

Dashed next back to door 9 to meet hubby

Blake were there so I got my programm signed by them

Meet up with hubby

He not happy with me before as he wanted to do quick get away so I promised I be quick as I can he was trying to talk me out of not getting autograhs afterwards

I do not think I said goodbye to anyone after concert or hello before to those I had not greeted before concert so please forgive me on that and I hope everyone got lots of great photos and lots of things they wanted signed
