"......The Opera Babes have spawned some imitators, just as the Three Tenors did. (Or was it four?) Some of the imitations have been rather sad, but to my surprise, a nonce group called All Angels is really quite good, with their self-titled album.

Because they combine four voices, a greater thickness of harmony is possible than the Opera Babes can do. And while the voices are much more traditional and the arrangements much less quirky, I found that every track was well worth listening to.

And I mean every track. When "The Windmills of Your Mind" (the theme from The Thomas Crown Affair) was a big hit back in the '60s, I liked its incantatory melody and rhythms. I continued to like it for the first hundred times I heard it. But the remaining 1,445 times that it played on the radio, in grocery stores and on elevators, I came to loathe it.

Imagine my surprise, then, when the All Angels version refreshed the song and made it listenable again."

Orwell Park, 13th July 2008

Music festival ends in triumph

"...The weekend finished last night with a rousing classical spectacular featuring Hayley Westenra and All Angels.

...First on stage were the 40 strong London Gala Orchestra with their conductor Simon Bell. The men looking smart in white tuxedos and the ladies in black dresses.

Their leader Daniel Bhattacharya taking us through the opening fanfare. We were then introduced to Charlotte, Daisy, Melanie and Laura collectively known as All Angels.

Dressed all in white they sang to us a mixed program of classical and contemporary tunes that included Flower Duet (the song from the British Airways advert) and Songbird, their first single.

Their last song of this first set was Singing You Through, a song written specially for them. They got a very warm reception. Next the orchestra played us the John Barry classic Out Of Africa and the Prelude from Bizet's Carmen before Simon Bell introduced us to the second special guest for the evening, Hayley Westenra...

...All Angels were welcomed back and gave us stunning versions of Pie Jesu by John Brunning and also the requiem In Paradisum. But the favourite with the crowd was their a cappella version of the Simon & Garfunkle classic Sound Of Silence...

...With the evening drawing to a close, all five ladies took the stage to join the band in a rousing chorus of the Edward Elgar classic Land of Hope and Glory..."

Comments about the Eisteddfod performance.

"The All Angels concert was the best we have ever attended, the ’support’ acts were absolutely brilliant and All Angels themselves were truly ‘out of this world’, their choice of programme was excellent with something for everyone’s taste and their renderings faultless. An evening to remember."
