Guildhall’s opera programme wins Queen’s Anniversary Prize
The opera programme of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama has been awarded a Queen’s Anniversary Prize in recognition of its “outstanding achievements and work”.
It is the second time the London-based school has won one of the biennial awards, launched in 1993 to reward merit in higher and further education, and has been given to the opera programme for its work since its foundation in 1989.
Developed by the Guildhall’s head of opera Clive Timms, the programme has long been recognised for the breadth and standards of its training and for its adventurous and ambitious approach to performance. In its 18-year history, it has staged 66 full productions, including seven British premieres and one world premiere.
Notable Guildhall graduates include Bryn Terfel, Anne Sofie von Otter, Toby Spence and Kate Royal.

| You can add Stephen Bowman and Oliver Baines from Blake to the list too!(Stephen graduated, Ollie's still studying there, although I guess the studies are on hold at the moment.) It's a great achievement for the Guildhall. |

It is indeed a very impressive list, with no doubt many more names we have forgotten to mention too.
Many congratulations to the Guildhall for this well earned award and may their successes continue to entertain us! |
