Biography
The OperaBabes have established themselves as one of the world’s elite operatic duos. Both classically trained, Karen England and Rebecca Knight met in Cambridge whilst performing Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
Their meteoric rise to fame began in 2001 when, after busking in Covent Garden to support their singing lessons, the duo were discovered by a talent scout who invited them to perform at the FA Cup Final, televised to 500 million people across the globe, and the UEFA Champions League final in Milan. A record company bidding war began, and the OperaBabes were born.
Their debut album Beyond Imagination was released in May 2002. It went straight in at number 1 in the UK classical charts and stayed there for 11 weeks. It was subsequently released across the world and hit No.4 in the US billboard charts. Since then, the OperaBabes have traveled the globe performing in concert with the world’s leading Orchestras including the Philharmonia, the Halle, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra plus many more.
They have also performed for Her Majesty the Queen at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, the launch of the Commonwealth Games at Buckingham Palace, Prom at the Palace for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, and at Los Angeles Opera House with Placido Domingo. Their numerous promotional appearances include GMTV, Des & Mel, Good Morning America and Fox and Friends. The OperaBabes have also been the subject of three UK documentaries and one US documentary. Recently they made history by becoming the first UK classical act to ever perform in Las Vegas.
Their follow up album Renaissance reflects a more expressive and virtuosic side to the OperaBabes. Tracks include Casta Diva, Pie Jesu, Clair de Lune and Stephen Sondheim’s Send in the Clowns.
