The classical pop group is splitting up... and it is hoped that Matthew Stiff will visit his hometown to thank fans for their support.
The announcement has only just begun to sink in for some, who have followed the band's career closely since they made it to the finals of The X-Factor three years ago.
Matthew (27) and bandmates Jonathan Ansell, Mike Christie and Ben Thapa were reported to have gone their separate ways because of bitter rowing.
But his mum, Julie, said the situation is not as bad as all that.
She said: "G4 has just come to its natural end.
"The fans have been really lovely and understanding. They have made some good friends out of all this, and I hope that will continue.
"The boys really appreciate their support and know they couldn't have done it without them.
"I will never forget when I saw G4 at Grimsby Auditorium on the first tour - the hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
"Anyone who was there knows what an amazing concert that was. In an odd way, I still can't believe all this has happened to my son!
"He was always more into the backstage side of things. He has a good degree, so no doubt he'll get a good job, and obviously we will support him in whatever he decides to do."
Although Matthew's future is not mapped out, there is the possibility he may go into music or media lecturing.
So what are the chances of him heading up a singing masterclass in Grimsby?
"That would be lovely," said Julie. "You never know!"
G4 will split after a final summer tour. The closest they are playing to Grimsby is Sheffield City Hall on Sunday, May 27.
In a joint statement, the band said: "The decision that we have come to has taken a long time and is certainly not a decision that we have taken lightly. We are all still friends."
In an interview last week, before the split was announced, Matthew said: "We know we're so fortunate.
"We have fans from age eight to 88 - whole generations loving our music.
"At concerts you have an old couple next to an eight-year-old with her mum and also the biker with the tattoos and earrings. It's a wonderful mix."
