TONIGHT sees 8,000 schoolchildren from Greater Manchester and the north west teaming up with legendary film composer Ennio Morricone for a spectacular world premiere in Manchester.
The Schools Festival Song - written by Morricone - will be the undoubted highlight of the Young Voices children's choral concert at the MEN Arena.
The song, commissioned by the Manchester International Festival, will also feature Manchester-born writer Nicholas Royle and guest star singer Nick Garrett, a founder of Amici Forever. Artists such as Ms. Dynamite, Katherine Jenkins and Heather Small have all performed with the Young Voices choir, who stage the largest children's choir concerts in the world with specially-arranged repertoires. They celebrate their tenth anniversary this year.
The new song has been composed by Morricone, who has written the score for films including Once Upon A Time in America, The Mission, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly and Kill Bill.
Royle is the author of five novels and more than 100 short stories. Bass baritone guest singer Garrett releases his first solo album today and is also staying in town to present an award at tomorrow's MEN Theatre Awards.
