[ ClassicalX ] Introducing the Opera Babes

New to ClassicalX, we reveal some fast facts on Karen England and Rebbeca Knight better known as the 'OPERA BABES'.

Karen England

Grew up in a village called Duffield in Derbyshire. Currently lives in in a small village in Hertfordshire.
Completed a BA Honours Degree in Music/English.
Completed a post graduate vocal diploma at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Performed in Mozart’s Magic Flute, Carmen for Opera Ireland, and Wellgunde in Wagner’s Rheingold for Sir Simon Rattle.
Met violinist husband on the set of Verdi’s La Traviata whilst working for the Royal Opera House.
On her ipod: Sting, U2, Massive Attack, Nick Drake, Madeleine Peyroux, Natalie Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Renee Fleming and Jose Carreras.

Rebecca Knight

Lives in Wapping and Suffolk.
Half Irish, Buddhist vegetarian.
Mother is the famous mezzo-soprano Gillian Knight and her father worked in theatre and TV.
A keen writer. Credits include Animal Ark for ITV, an award-winning short film called The Wheelhouse and several screenplays.
Favourite roles to date include Rosina in the `Barber of Seville’, 1st Lady and Papagena in Mozart’s `Magic Flute’, Cherubino in Mozart’s `Marriage of Figaro’, and Patience in Gilbert and Sullivan’s `Patience’.
She is a qualified skipper. Rebecca has sailed all over the world on a Tall ship and yachts, including several trans-Atlantic voyages. As part of a special project, she took under-privileged kids on a weekly sailing trip around the Scottish coast line.
Drives a 1975 red MG BGT restored to mint condition.
