[ ClassicalX ] Thomas Spencer-Wortley serenades shoppers

Thomas Spencer-Wortley has been described as the solo version of hunky quartet Il Divo.

The tousle-haired tenor was happy to be compared to a humble busker when he visited Sheffield to sing for shoppers in the city centre.

The classical opera singer was accompanied by his all-female string quartet Midnight Strings as he performed in the Winter Garden.

Currently on his Busking for Success tour of public spaces and shopping malls across Britain, Thomas - dubbed 'the English Josh Groban' and 'the UK's answer to Andrea Bocelli' - releases his debut album on Monday (24 Aug).

But Thomas, aged 27, is hoping his whole career won't be made up of impromptu al fresco appearances.

His ambition is one day to fulfil his 80-year-old grandma Mavis' dream for him to perform at The Royal Albert Hall in London
