[ ClassicalX ] Bryn concert coup for club

Tickets are now on sale for the visit of famed opera singer, Bryn Terfel, to Winchester Cathedral later this year.

The bass-baritone performer is coming to the city courtesy of Winchester Music Club.

It previously scored a major coup by inviting Dame Kiri Te Kanawa to perform in the city in May, 2008.

Proceeds from the concert will go to the Emmaus Centre, in Winchester, and the Bryn Terfel Foundation, which helps aspiring singers and musicians.

The show, on Thursday, November 26, will also feature Anna Dennis (soprano), Sarah Shorter (alto), and Nathan Vale (tenor).

Winchester Music Club and Orchestra, Winchester College Glee Club and the Quiristers from Winchester College will also be there for a performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

The conductor will be Nicholas Wilks, master of music at Winchester College, and the club’s director of music.
