[ ClassicalX ] Opera sensation Paul Potts in HK to promote new album

Opera sensation Paul Potts, who is first winner of reality show 'Britain's Got Talent', was in Hong Kong to promote his latest album 'Passione'.

He blew fans away in Hong Kong with some signature arias including "Nessun Dorma", the song that catapulted him to fame in 2007 on the maiden season of "Britain's Got Talent".

And the shy former mobile phone salesman has captured quite a few hearts as well, with his humble demeanor.

The 38-year-old British tenor recorded his second album "Passione" with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. It includes covers of classics such as "The First Time Ever I saw Your Face", translated into Italian.

"It's some of the most moving music I've ever performed, and most of them were tracks that I'd enjoy listening to myself," said Potts.

Bullied while growing up, he found an escape in music from a young age.

"I always feel incredibly nervous before I perform. That never changes. But when I get onto the stage, it's a bit like coming home," said Potts.

As for comparisons to a talent from the same show, Susan Boyle, Potts admitted similarities in their journey to fame.

"I think there is a certain amount of similarity there. But I think in a sense, on the day of auditions, Susan had more confidence than I did. I was walking up as if I was about to be sent to the gallows," said Potts.

Potts kicks off his world tour in June.
