Tenors team up to tune up some nostalgic titles

Pop and opera are about to unite under one roof, much to the delight of Mackay music fans.

The two musical genres - normally at either end of the scale - are being brought together by the Ten Tenors.

In a one-night show, the Ten Tenors will bring their Nostalgica: A Journey of Musical Memories to the Mackay Entertainment Centre stage on July 3.

And north Queensland boy Tod Strike, who is the eldest member of the 10-man ensemble, told the Daily Mercury he was keen to come back to familiar territory.

“I grew up in north Queensland so I am excited to be able to come back to my starting ground,” he said.

“I have been in and out of the group since it started. The tour that we are bringing to Mackay is celebrating 10 years on the road.

“The Nostalgica repertoire features a stunning collection of classic songs plus many of the most requested numbers from our fans over the years.

“I'm now based in Brisbane, I have lived in New York and I grew up in Cairns but there's nothing to compare with the Whitsundays.

“There's nothing like it around the world.

“There are a lot of nice places in the world but there's something about coming back home and playing in front of a home crowd.”

Life on the road could be hectic and tiring but Mr Stike said no matter where they were the boys always ensured they had plenty of fun in the sun.

“We are very much a blokey group and we are all really great mates including the light and sound guys.

“Generally we like to mix our tours up, have fun and we don't take things too seriously,” he said.

“We are really sporty guys. I grew up playing a lot of sport so when we are travelling we love get out into the open spaces and the sun at every opportunity.”

The Ten Tenors was formed 13 years ago and in that time the group has toured the world several times, produced gold and platinum award-winning CDs and DVDs and sold albums in 27 countries.

They have a passion for quality music and powerful singing and are delighted to share their latest step in their journey with fans during this Queensland tour.

The Ten Tenors will play at the Mackay Entertainment Centre on Friday, July 3, at 8pm. To book or for more information, contact the Mackay Entertainment Centre on 4961 9700 or email mec.boxoffice@mackay.qld.gov.au.
