[ ClassicalX ] Tickets go on sale for concert

Tickets go on sale today (Thursday) for the Proms in the Park in Salford event, featuring Irlam tenor Russell Watson.

Salfordians will be able to buy 4,000 tickets at a reduced price of £7.50, with full-price tickets costing £20 each.

Five hundred tickets have been given to each of the eight community committee areas in the city, and people living in Salford who want to buy tickets will need to give their postcode to ensure they get the lower rate.

The gig will take place at Buile Hill Park in Pendleton in September and will be the biggest ticketed event the city has ever seen.

Russell, 41, a former Irlam and Cadishead Community High pupil, said: "I’m incredibly excited about the concert, I think for every artist there is something special about performing in your home town. With the events of the last 12 months in mind I know it is going to be an extra special evening. I’ve had such amazing backing and support from local people and it has been incredibly touching.

"I’d like to give them something back, and an evening to remember for all."

The event is being made possible through the partnership between Salford City Council and the BBC Philharmonic.

The orchestra is currently based in Manchester and is moving to Salford in 2011.
