[ ClassicalX ] Second Ten Tenors show in Blenheim

With no decent venues over the hill, The Ten Tenors have signed up for a second show in Blenheim.

Marlborough Civic Theatre chief executive officer Andrew Scott said the Blenheim show on Wednesday June 18 sold out last month, but the good news was the tenors would perform at the theatre on Monday June 16 as well.

The Ten Tenors were to perform at the Trafalgar Centre in Nelson that Monday, but the Trafalgar Centre venue was riddled with sound and sight problems and ticket sales had been slow, so the gig had been dropped.

Mr Scott said the Trafalgar Centre "looks and sounds like the inside of an aircraft" but he did not think Nelsonians' appreciation of the arts was to blame.

"I don't know if it's a case of us being more cultured, we're just a bit faster (to buy tickets)," he said.

It is not the first time Blenheim has hosted a great show while Nelson has missed out and will not be the last.

Black Grace dance troupe performs at the Civic Theatre on June 6, and the New Zealand Opera's Hanzel and Gretel on July 17. Neither is going to Nelson.
