Celebrated soprano Lesley Garrett will star in a new production of the great Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel, which hits the road at Bromley's Churchill Theatre from September 27 and then tours before coming in for a West End clambake.
Ms Garrett will play Nettie Fowler, cousin of Carrie, the show's heroine. Nettie's most famous song is You'll Never Walk Alone. Carousel producer Kim Poster, an American, recalls being bemused when she arrived in the UK several years ago to hear people refer to You'll Never Walk Alone as 'an old English pub song'.
Cameron Mackintosh produced the National Theatre's memorable Nicholas Hytner version several years ago and it'll be a pleasure to hear the marvelous score again, which includes June Is Bustin' Out All Over and many others.
